The “partisan papers” do not indulge in that luxury; the “$3 puff” arrangement is exclu‘sively confined to the “independent” (?!) organ at the hub. These “$3 puffs” are carefully measured off, 80 as to be exactly of equal length, and to. contain precisely the same amount of soft soap. .. Party papers simply publish the announcement of candidates, at usual advertising rates, without extras thrown in by way ot “soft solder.” When Alexis’ party becomes a little older, and acquires sufficienit strength to render a nomination reasonably promising, we apprehei]d the methods -of its aspiring members will not vary materially from those employed by Democrats or Republicans.

mmm ce revival now pending in Ligonier is proving an immense Stccesa—guita eutaling thai of our most sanguine expectations. - Mr. Hallenbeck, with his crushing logie, forcible and :l(r:u deseription and’ sincerity of purpose (in the latter of which consists the chief secret of his extraordinary success), is cansing the people of this vicinity to be more active than ever before regarding the great moral question of the day—more convinced than ever respecting the nobility of the cause and the determined and unrelenting support which it so justly merits and which is so absolute1y essential to its life, growth and ultimate good. The people are finally awakening to a realizationof the fact that unceasing toil—indefatigable pergeverance—in face of all opposition and passivity, is the paramount ele‘ment of success in battling with this. —the world’s supreme curse. The most cheering aspect attending this re-agitation of the question and that which cannot fail to lend a wonderful influence on behalf of the cause, is the interest and active participation in the work which is beginning to be manifested by the business men of the town, a condition ‘of affairs, the absence of which has heretofore been considered chiefly instrumentzl in holding the mpvement in.check by preventin}; that development of it which otherwise would have established it upon a more substantial basis and insured it completely from the remotest indication of decay or loss of activity. Mr. Hallenbeck is not confining his labors exclusively to Ligonier, but branches out to various portions of the surrounding country to meet with success wherever he may appear—a saccess, moreover, most highly befitting his zealousness in the matter.— The fruits of his untiricg efforss are synonomous with “greatness,” and especially is such the case in those districts with the people of which he has become gsomewhat acquainted, and whom he has caused to realize more than ever,if that be possible, that he is singularly and deadly:in earnest—a man reixdy to practice self-denial to the furtherest that the glorious cause of temperance, may continue to prosper and gain new recruits. Not an _iota of selfishness, but simple unadulterated charity and sympathy for the victims of strong drink are the predominant features in the character of the man. Ile does not resortto abuse any one, considering offensiveness ‘as working detriment, rather than god, to the progress of the work. He speaks in that plain, simple, touching ‘manner which must persuade many - while it provokes none. =~ - It has been determined by the asso“ciation to retain Mr. Hallenbeck until ‘the interest in the movenient shall ; have been :thQl’oLlglyly Tevived in this vicinity—revived in such a degree and ’ manner that there will not be the } slightest probability of its abatidg in the futare, Let the good work go on - with infinite prosperity and result in ‘the building up "of an uitimate aad permanent benefit to human kind, is the heart-felt wish of all real lovers of moral improvement and the righteous elevation of human conduct. = -
