Source of Infeetions Diseases.
~ All oft the infectious diseases undoubtedly possess an original hAabitat, where it is probably they are rnew as alwayg capable of spontaneous origin in their primitive form, whatever that may be. The difficulty of tracing dis-eases-types through various localities, and among different people of the globe, have up. to this time, prevented a precise knowledge upon the point, which time may yetbring us. Itseems tolerable certain, however, that the several acyte infectious diseases named 'below have the nativities here attributed to them: B | The Cholera—Has its home in India. " The- Small-Pox'— In the. Bast. Known in China nearly twelve hundred years before Christ. ! * The Plague—An Oriental disease. Has a distant geograplrical range. Price & Brewer are thorough and competent physicians, is evident from the fact that not only a great number of the citizens of this place; but people of the surrounding country regularly call upon them for medical advise, every time they visit our’city, and all of their patients unite in testifying that they have been greatly benefited by their mode of treatment. It is a. well known fact to the people of this vicinity, that Drs. Price & Brewer have cured many cases that had been pronounced incurable by other physicians—and we would earnestly recommend any of our friends who are suffering with diseases of the lungs, heart, liver, or any other chronic disease, to consult them, and feel assured that they will not be imposed upon.” St Those out of health in this vicinity, can see Drs, Price & Brewer on their next visit at Ligonier, Fleming House, Friday July 26th, or at Dodge ITouse, LaGrange, Saturday, July-27th. =
* This Grant enthusiasm has commenced too early in the season.: 1t will thin out before the square-toeds meets in 1880.—Elkhart News. ;
~ No.more nonsensical project has ever been set on foot, in the annals of American politics, than the present Grant movement. The suggestion of his name for President in 1880 is an insult to intelligence and honesty.— His administration was the most corrupt and profligate that ever afilicted a free government. The idea that the people, in the face of that fact, would elect a pliant tool of the Money Power, is to presume that they are either fools or knaves. 'The republican party has done a great many foolish things, but its leaders are not foolhardy enough to nominate U.S. Grant. The next republican eandidate for President will in all probability be Elihu Washburn, of Illinois. /

Between Two Fires. (Ballivan Democrat.)
The Board of State House Commissioners are between two fires. The fellows who threw a. brick:-bat on the roof of the old capitol during the sesslon of the last legislature to produce i panic and induce a feeling of insecurity, are anxious for work at good prices; while the people outside of Indianapolis are declaring the building will cost four or five millions of dol-
lars instead of two millions. Recently the Board awarded the contract for excavating the cellar, and it was taken so low that the contractor said lie could not afford to pay over 75 cents a day for laborers. Result, an indignation meeting in which the Roard was denounced as well as the contractor. Sich is life. e o
- All Owing to Driuking Beer. Mr. Frederick Lauer, the oldest brewer in the United States, in his adthess before.the brewers’ congress in this city last Wednesday, brought out a fact which may explain the rapid decay of the Turkish empire, Mr. Lauer said: ol ; : “There are examples of nations that have practiced prohibition, but-it has invariably been to their great disadvantage. The Mohammedans adhered to total abstinence for a period of twelve hundred years. They consti‘tuted the pringipal inhabitants of Turkey ou the three continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa, and the Turks, as a rule, have faithfully adhered to their prohibitory laws.. We find that } of all the nations on the earth they are the moest stupid, sluggish, slovenly,. ‘and even the most filthy. They are as far back in civilization to-day as they were when they conquered Constantinople, nearly nire hundred years ago. Being a nation of water-drinkers, they ‘have become as a stagnant morass—an offense to civilization.” . . The Russians, it should ibe understood, are good :solid drinkers. They are what might be termed ‘‘potable people” In a conflict with a weak waber drinking nation they naturally proved conquerors. " The Germans probably whipped the Itceneh for the same reason. The Germans drink beer and good solid wines, while the French do very little in the way of beer and are given to light wines.— The Britons are a nation of drinkers, and they whip eveiybody that they can lay hands on. In our own eountry we have seen how the beer-drink-ing north walked off with the temperate and :light-tippling south. We’ might go on in this way multiplying eéxamples indelinitely. There Is evidently a good deal in beer. : [We presume that Rev. Mahin will hardly concur in the opinions expressed above.—ED. BANNER.
Fair Warning to Selfish Democrats. > (Winamac Democrat.)
A correspondent of the N. Y. Sun charges that Thurman, Hendricks and Bayard, all prospective candidates for the Presidency in 1880, are secretly opposed to the Potter committee investigations of the great fraud practiced in Louisiana and Florida. This correspondent charges that these aspirants are desirous of Killing off Ti'den as a candidate, and they do not want the people to know how he was cheated out of the election, fearing that his nomination would become sure and certain under such develop‘ment. Politicians are very jealous of each other’s popularity in order to kill off their rivals. But these men may be sure that any attempt on their part to ‘defeat a full investigation of the charges made against the Returning Boards and judges of elections in the States where charges of fraud are made, will be condemned by a majority of the democratic party. This government cannot exist if our elections are to be carried by corruption and fraud, and as long as our people recognize;the fact that the will of a majority confers all power and authority, we must insist that the veice of the people shall be heard and obeyed.— There is nothing improper or wrong in Congress ordering an investigation where corruption and fraud is chargged, and there 18 nothing wrong in exposing ‘and bringing to light the villainy that would cheat the nation out-of the choice of its rulers. :
- Presidential aspirants in the democratic party had better go a little slow in throwing obstacles in the way of this investigating committee.
A Walk-on the Bottom of the Ohio : - River. (Cincinnati Enquairer.) :
This has 8o far been suth a wonder-: ful year in discoveries, inventions and remarkable feats that men would not be greatly surprised to behold their fellows walking about on the ceilings like flies.” 'The ghostly voice that issues from the metallic throat of the phonograph has no sooner become familiar to our ears than the microphone is-introduced, and the dainty tread of the prowling musquito is multiplied into the tramp of an approaching ox. No sooner does Captain Boynton successfully buffet the waves of old ocean with hisswimming' apparatus than Professor Richet pops up into the air with his flying machine and skims about like a bird. -Still the wonders have not ceased, and another genius, a river diver, now proposes to astonish the world in 8 new direetion, ‘ Ilis projeet is to walk the entire distance fsom Cincinnati to Cairo, 111., on the bottom of the Ohio river in twen-ty-five days, on a wager of $lO,OOO, and his past success as a'diver makes it quite probable that his wager will. not be accepted. In case the attempt is made it will no doubt induce many others to imitate his example, and if the bottom of the Ohio river does not in this manner become a public highway, it will possibly result in.the drowning of a few foolish individuals of sporting inclinations. -~ o
Beware of Them. (Salem Democrat.)
The time for holding Democratic and Republican county .conventions tor the nomination of candidates for the various county offices at the next October election is fast approaching. To steer clear of political dead-beats, on both sides, let the people belonging to both parties give a wide berth to any aspirant who talks about his superior claims or threatens to run as an indepéndent candidate provided his claimg are not recognized by his party in a nomination for the office to which he aspires. Neither party can afford to have anything to do with foisting. such men upon their party. ‘We. don’t care how many men come before a nominating convention for office if they are honest enough to abide the decision of a majority of their party insaid convention. Thé CONSTITUTIONAL CATARRE REMEDY is the first arlicle placed before the public that proposed to cure Catarrh by durlding up the Constitution. It struck at the root of the whole dificulty, and thousands opon fhousands of letters bave been received by the proprietors, semnbg forth the marvelous cures, and, what is remarkable, curing not only the Catarrh, but all other ailments at the same time, This is what it always does. ' The following statement is only a snmP e of what we are constantly receiving from well known people, to whom you can write, and not to bogus ones,.— Catarrh and its atténdant evils, cold in head, hacking cough, inci{flent consumption, headache, *mins in back and loins, dizziness, languidness, oss of appetite’and general weakness, all leave together when the Censtitutional @atarrh Remedy is taken asrecommended. = LOWELL, Mass., Feb. 12, 1276.
