We make mention of this matter at the request of sundry citizens who would like to have a- different arrangement in these particulars. —The hardware store of Mr. John Weir was burglarized last Sunday night., The thief or thieves effected an entrance through a coal-bin.into the ware-room, chiseled the door and endeavored to take off the lock, but the door being bolted on the insjde, the plastering was removed at the gside of the door, ‘to a sufficient extent to run an arm through and thereby enable the unbolting of the door.— About $2OO worth of knives,s2o worth of silver-plated forks, &c.. and about $lO in change were stolen. No clue to the burglars, as yet. - | —A disgusted Republican remarked. the other day that the real trouble with Hayes was his conspicuous Jack l ‘ of capacity for the important position ~he occupies. The d. If we remember correctly this same objection was filljged by Democrats during last year’s campaign, but this same d. R. wouldn’t believe it at that time. Verily, time works wonderful changes. ° : - —-Prof. Luke and family spent the holiday vacation with his father who resides in Holmes county, Ohio, The Senior Luke has been ill for nearly a year, and this visit of a long-absent son, as a matter of course, afforded him great pleasure, while the visitors were doubly gratified, by reason of the fact that his health was much better than usual. A family re union of the ‘children and the grand-children was arranged (for the first time, by the way,) and participated in by thirty--seven in number. . The affair will doubtless long be remembered as the, event in the history of the family. Prof. Luke visited some of his old frierids in the Buckeye State, and assures us that this was to him decidedly the most pleasant vacation since his connection with “educational interests. . Sympathy and good offices undeér such ecircumstances, from a brother in the ‘guild would seem far more appropriate.
