- How and What to Feed Horses. . All horses must not ‘be fed in the same proportions, without regard [to their ages, their constitutions and their ork because the impropriety of such a practice is self ¢vident. - Yet 1t is constantlly done and is the busis of disease of every kind. Never use bad bay on account of ts:cheapness, because there is no proper ndurishment in Eiit.' Damaged corn is ¢xceedingly mjari jous, because it brings on inflamation of the bowels and spring discases. - Chaff is better for old horses than lhay, because they can chew and digest it/better, * Mix chaff with corn or beans, but do not give the latter alone, because it makes the horse chew bis feed more and digest it better. Hay or grassalone will not s pport a horse under hard work, because |there is not sufficient natritive body in ditber. —— Simple Remedy for olson, If 8 person has.swallowed any poison whatever, or has fallen into convulsions from having overloaded the ‘stomach, an instantanious remedy, more| effieient and ~applicable in & larger number of cases “ than any other balf dozen medicines that we can now think of, is a| heaping teaspoonful of ‘commen salt land as tauch. ground mustard, stirred rapidly in a tea cup of water, warm or cold,/and sWwatlow ed instantly. Syracuse. Thereis no prettier site fora town on the line of the Baltimore, Pittsburgh & Chicago’Railroad in Indiana, than Syracuse, in ‘Kosciusko county. Ocenpying an elevated position, overlooking a beau tiful lake, which extends a mile southeasterly:to the Narrows, where the rail road will cross—thence widening into the magnificent Turkey Lnke, in all, nine miles in length “by nearly three miles in width—no more desitable place tor a resi dence can be found. The lake nbounds in fish of desirable species, and the depth of water is amply sufficient for navigation by steamboats, sloops and yachts ; und we predict that at no distant day those waters will present an animated appearance, with the various water-craft, from steamers to-canoes, with awhich they will be covered. - The lake, stretching away for nine miles through a rich country, can easily be made a meaus of transportation for lumber and all kindsof produce; and this will cause the settlement of its shores, in every practicable location. Probably within/ ten years, with the town of Syracuse covering the hills and beautifal valleys aroand its Noithwestern extremity, its banks on either band for pine miles studd«d with residences, and its clear wa‘ters covered with sail vessels, and its ) steamer plying to and fro—Tuarkey Linke ' and the contiguous country will present ~one of the most attractive living panoramas in the West—the creation of the Baltimore, Pittsburg & Chicago Rail road, in all except the glorious natural basis and outlines of . beauty and utility. ~ Syracuse is equally fortunate in its leading citizens, with some of whom we ~are acquainted. Messrs. Lape and Hille- - boldt, and several ethers, bave from the - beginning given the most active and efficient aid and encouragement to the great enterpsise wdich is ‘to deyelop-the ricly resiurces of their town and country.— New Era. 7

The class of bounties referred to is the $lOO to soldiers who en listed between May 4th and Ju'y 224, 1861, fur three years, and who pever received any bouaty: 4 TREASURY DEPARTMENT, ) - SECOND AUDITOR’S OFFICE, ' © October 28, 1872, J. G. Greenwalt, Adjutant General, étzf : Sir: Yoursof the 24th inst., inquiring the cause of the delay in settling - claims for bounty under act of April 27, 1872, is received. : ) 5 The causes of delay are mainly the want of clerical force in this office and that ot the Adjutaut General. No additional furce was provided to m:et the additional work. Both offices were temporarily reorganized with a view toexpedite these settlements; but'the annual furloughsto the clerks and leaves of absence for elec tion purposes have been émbarrassing, and defeated the purpose of closing out the work before November. It .is probable that in the course of a week after the Presidential election, we shall be able to commence settling rapidly, and before the Ist of Junuary that class ot clpims will be disposed of. : i £ Very. respectfully, ; = E. ! l)rop‘sy Among Horses. : Prominent among the diseases which have fullowed the horse catarrh is dropsy. The enormous proportions which animals ufflicted wich this malady assume causes it to become more of a sensation than oth er more dungerous results of the disease. The appearanice of a dropsical horse is as follows: The thighs and hind * legs are greatly swollen, The hind .quarters are stiff, with great weakness of the hock. The belly is usually much swollen, and 1n some cas:s the breast and bead. There is _the most danger when theswelling nears the region of the heart, In some cases there are ulcerous tumors. WISHART’S PINE TREE TAR CORDIAT , RDIAL, - NATURE’S GREAT REMEDY t FOR THE . ! : Throat and Lungs. It is gratifying to us to i;}form the public that Dr.L. Q. C. Wishart’s Pine Tree Tar Cordial, for Throat and Lung Diseases, has gained an etiviable teput.ation from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast, and from thence to some of the first families of Europe, "not thr‘ofigh, the press alone, but by persons throughout the States actually benefited and curéd at his office. W'hi]e‘he publishes less, so say our reporters, he is unable to supply the aenlalel. It ga'ins and hdlds its reputatiofi— First. Not by stopping cough, but by loosening and assisting nature to throw off the qnhealthy mattef c-n]lectefi about the throat and bronchial tubes, which cause irritation. i Second, Itremoves fhe causeof irritation (which produc‘e; cough) of the mucuoué menzbrqne and bronchial tubes, agsists the lun.ge to acj% and throw dfl' the unhealthy secretions, and purtf{g;the blood. 'J‘hir(}. It is free from squils. )obeliwé ipecac vand opium, of which most throat and ung remedies are composed, which allay cough only, and disorganize the stbmach, Ithas a soothifig effect on the stomach, acts on the liver and kidneys, and lymphatic and nervous regions, thus reaching to. every part of the system,.' and in its invigorating a;ld purifying effects it I;msi gained a repumtioh which it must hold above all others in the market.
