“3g ‘ o b Revival ofanAncient Cusao Fred Allen, Tired of Life, Com. " mits Smicide. : | — Domestic Trouble and ntrong; Drlfik I Cause the Rash Act. : v — Ort Sntu_rrfay morcing of last week the citizans of the. neighborhood just west of the villige of Wawaka, tbis county, were startled by the melancholy nnnouncement ‘that Fred Allen, an honest, hard working farmer, and a residert of that neighhor hood (for the past ten years, had ended his life by hanging himself to a tree. The fucts, which we have learned from a reli üble gentleman of that neighborhood — ‘Mr. Abram H. Smith—are substantially us follows : o : Onthe morning of the fatal day (Friday) Allen drove a hog to the village of Wawaka, some two miles distart, sold it and helped kill and dress it ; then procured some intoXicating drink ; went to the postoflice and requested the postmaster to retarn any newspapers that might come to his address, saying that he wou'd not . have any further use for them after that dny. |Lle left the village übout half past three o'clock P. M, taukink a route that leads tthr:.mgll Widow Brown'’s woods, a guarter of u mile west of that place. Ao unusual noise was heard in the wonds just noith of the railroad by some men at work jon the track. wherenpon Mr. Con - way tepaired to the spot and found Allen in the act of untying a rops which wis attached to the lim» of » small tree, When questioned as to his olcctsin being there and the cause of the poise, Allen informed Conway that he had n«')t._ beard any noise, and forther that tlhie rope was one nsed by him in carrying straw ;t home nnd that he had been using it in taking a hog to market. Mr Conway, not suspect ing any evil design, started to resume his labor, but after leaving him a short distunce Allen fell to the ground. Mr Conway returned and assisted him to regain his feet. He then doubled the rope vp and placed it in Allen's pocket. -It appears that the suicide then went to Billman's wouds a balf mile from his home, selected a tree which had a hmb abdut seven feet trom the ground, with another limb three feet above the former. The supposition is that he climbed to the first limb and securely tied the rope to the upper one, then, having ndjusted the pope about his neck, precipitated himsefl'f?rum his perilous seat, This supposition is strengthen. ed by the faet that his neck w:atound lugated at the post mortem examionation. Not returning home as was his wont, his family beenme nlarmed and at once instfigmcd a search, which resulted in the finding of the lifeless bady, by a party of young men, in the condition above described, on SBaturday morning. ; Ile was allowed to remain hanging un - til 4 o'clock P. M. on Sut.urdnf, the neighbors believing it “ngainst the law” to cut him down until the cnrnner‘} who could could not be tound, should ‘order it.— . Dufring. this period, bundreds, impelled by i morbid curiosity, visited the place to gaze upon the sickening, ghastly spec tacle of & human being dangling between heaven and earth, and that too by his own hand. Mr William_ Roberts and 8. P Van Aiken, Justices of the. Pence, sub, poeenaed juiy, cat him down, and held a tormal inqueét, tke decision of which was in nccordance with the above facts, Allen was addicted to an excessive use of ardent spirits at intervals, and when intoxicated was very abusive to his wife and children ; when sober, kind and in dulgent. To his neighbors, and ull with whom he had dealings, he was honest and upright. It wasonly when his brain was ctazed with lignor that he was abusive — A few days prior to his tragic end bis wife was compelled to baye him arrested ard put under boudsto keep the peace, as' he had threatened ber life severnltimes recently. . In the morning before leaving home be gave his wife s pocket book cobtuining all the moniéy then in his possession, kissed his children, and informed them thut he would never returnl Alas, haw true! Mr. Allen was a Swiss by birth, served with credit as a private sol dier during the late rebellion, and was \ honorably discharged therefrom;

WORNARN. By an immense practice, extendine throuch a period of yearg, having within that time treated many thousand cafes of those discases peculiar to woman. I have been enabled t) perfect a most potent and aw ceable medicine that meets the indications presented by T at class of dizeases with positive certainty and exactness, To designace this nataral specific compound, I have named it . . ’ . w 3 ol gty - Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription. The term, howaver, is but a feeble expression of .y most matured appreciation of its vaiue. based 'ugtm actual and .witnessed realities. As a cluse observer, I have while witnessing Its positive reeults in the few special discases incide t to the separate organ sm f wanan, singled it out as the climax or crowaning gem of my medical career. On its merits asapo-itive, safe. and cffectual remedy for this class ‘ofigiseasea, and one that will at all timesand under all circumstances act kindly and in hurmon{ with the laws which govern' the female system. lam will ng to stake my regutntiun as & phy=ician, Nay, even more. ro confident am I that it will not disappeint the mos=t sanguine expeciation<of a s'ngle invalid lady who ‘employs it for any of the a:lments for which I recommend it, Ihat I offer and sell it under A POSITIVE GUARANTER. If a beneficial effect’ is I.ot experieficed bythe time two-thirds of the contents of the bottle are ‘used, I will. on return of the bottle, two-thirds of the medicine having been taken according to directions, and the case being one for which I recommend it, promptly refand the money paid for it. Had I not the most p rfect confidence inats virtues, I could.not off-r it as I do under these conditions; but having witnessed its tml'y miraculous cures in jthonsands of cases, I feel ware ranied ‘and perfecily safe in risking both my reputation and my money on its merits. . The following are among those diseares in which my Favorite Prescription has worked cures—aslf by mazic and with a certainty never before =attained by any m- dicine; Leucorrheea, Excessive. Flowing, Paintul’ Mouthly Periods, Suporessions ‘when from unn’ tural causes, Trrezularities, Weak Back, Prolap=us. or “fa line of the Urerns, Anteversion and Retroversion. Bearing Down Sensations, Internal Hear, Nervous Depress on, Debility, Despondeucy, Threatened Mascarriage. Chronic. Congextion, Inflammation and Ulceration of the Uterus. Impotency, Barrenness, or Sterility, Female Weakness, and very many other chronic d'seases incident to woman not mention:d here. in which, as well ds in the cases which I have mentioned, my Favorite Prescription wox;ijs cures—the mare vei of the world. Thiz medicine Ido not extol as a cure-all, but it admirably fulfills a singlenéss of purpose, beinga mo-t perfect specific in all chrouic diseases of the sexual system of woman. It will not disappoint, nor will it do harm in any state or condition. Tt will be found invaludble in discases incident to preg‘nancy, and can be taken in moderate doses with perfuct safety while in that state. Indeed, it gj ' a Mother’s Cordial, and so pn-Pares the system for parturition that it renders child-labor easy. I have receivel the heartfelt %raise from hundreds of mothers for the inestimable benefits thus conferred. i I offer my Favorite Prescription to the Ladies of America with the gincerity of an honest heart, and for their hest welfare. Those who desire further information on these subjects can obtain it in my TREATISE ON CHRONIC DISEASES OF THE GENERATIVE AND URINARY ORGANS. *ent secure from observation upon receipt of two postage stamps.
