Hendallville Correspobdence, - KENDALLVILLE, August 19, Eplror BANNER:—Mr L, E. Goodwin, ‘candidate for Common Pleas J udge for this District, addressed the Greeley and Brown club, on last Friday evening, at Gappinger’s hall, upon the political issues of the day. I was not able to be present, - but judging from the expressions ot those who were, "I am pleased to know that it was well received by the audience. * After'the conclusion ot Mr, Goodwin’s speech, Elder T. H. Stewart was called upon and sent some hot shell into the enemy’s camp. The meeting, like fllliat.»hcrs we have had since the campaign opened, was a success. On pext Friday evening delegates will be selected to attend our county convention, to be held on the Slst inst. - There will, also, be speaking at the next club meeting. We hope there will ve & full attendance, both from town and country, it _ 3

It is asserted upon good authority that Judge Clapp desired, and so expressed himself, that the Philadelphia convention should nominate Grecley and Brown with the Cincinnati platform entire; also, that Jugge Tousley listened to proposals thag hv’lwould announce bimself a Liberal Re-p-Yolican snd become their candidate for Congress, aud that Eden Fisher was one of the gentlemen who advised Mr, Tousley to take such a course. Now, these getitlemen have a perfect right to support whom they please, but I contend that they are not hionest in their political movements. o : Of the Lawyers ot this county, seven stand for Greeley, seven are for Grant, and one is non committal ; four of those who now support Grecley voted for Grant in 1868, also, the one who is non-committal voted for Grant in 1868. In the medical profession, we know of seven who voted for Grant in 1868 that will now support Greeley. Well done for the two professions! :

“Cost” Thomas is the strongest Louisville convention man we have in our city. He is a constant reader of “Brick” Pome roy’s paper. Some gay that he is employ ed by the Grantites to help work up the convention, e I have this to say to Myers: That Liberal Democrats and Liberal Rrpublicans will not troub‘le J. B. Kelley or his hotel any more. I had bardly supposed that Kelly was running a hotel to insult the ‘friends of those who stop with him, or that Myers was running a paper to pub. lish those insults, , e I understand that Mr. Julian will be at Lagrange on the 28th inst., why can’t we get him to come here in the evening ? The only man I know of who isanxious that Gen. Browne should meet Gov. Hendricks upon the “stump,” is C. O. Myers. All others of the party would advise Mr. Browne to stay at home if he would hold a respectable vote. T s Mrs. Lisle, wife of our postmaster, usks almost every Democtat who comes in the office to snbscribe for “Brick” Pomeroy’s paper. Now I hardly think that it will pay her, gs she will not be the postmaster’s, wife after the fourth of March next, The Grantites devote most of their time in talking up the Louisville converition, which they aver is a “big thing,” and say that already Greeley stock is falling off rapidly at all places except this. : The Greeley and Brown club will mect on the 28th inst.,;, when an address will be delivered, in the German language, by Hon. John Sarnighausen, of Fort Wayne. Let every German come out and hear the able statesman.. - : HoRACE.

—Our old friend Col. Isaigh B. McDonald—for be is our friend, even if we are opposed politically—is outspoken in his opposition to J. B. Stoll, the Democratic candidate for Auditor of State, and does not attempt to conceal hig opposition. to him. ER RS EEG Aaihe Basne. © “OLp CHARLEY Wrire” is the mbja@% of a very interesting article in last week's - BANNER, I?! “I.r pfit is rather unsatisfactory to me. I would like to know the reason for gelecting Charley for a victim, Was it, as casually observed, because he was “an old bachelor and homelese ?” If 80, does Dr. Denny still thiok such persons ought to be victimized for the advancement of surgery and medical scienice? I believe that it was no-fault of his that he was alone_'in the world, ag all he knew of his origin was that wh'enélg_n infant he was taken from a burning ,house, whose inmates bad been slaughtcred by Indians at the massacre of Wyoming, he never knowing his real name or to whom related. If be had few friends, be had less encinies, as be was a very quiet, inoffensive, kind-héarted man. Those who knew him best; respected him most. *“L" speaks of his last resting place, but does not tell us where it is. It is an unmarked, sunken, brier covered spot in a secluded corner of. the valley cemetery in Sparta towhship. It might interesi the disciples of Esculapius to know the nature and amoun’ that surgery was advanced by tbe sacrifice of the uncompiaining victim. Was it to scttle the queétion,sn often discussed, a 8 to whether those buge feet were solid, or, like most other large bodies, containing vitals and intestines? Will the doc . tor rise to explain? While up, tell us of Charley's adventure with a mermaid in} the river Thames. I think“L” is'in error about Judge Clapp baving a house built. at Port Mitchell, as be was “an old hnch-j elor without a home” at that time. | OLD SETTLER.
