A little son of 'Mr. Freeman Tabor, of about the age of six, had his leg: broken last week. He was watching some men moving an old house, and being close by the workinen, was accidentally hit with a beavy plank. This accident is the more distressing from the: fact that the little fellow had been sick nearly all winter. - The Philbarmonic Bociety of this city propose to give a concert in Mitchell Hall, on next Saturday evening, April Bth. Tue Ft. Wayne Journal of last week contains a most violent attack upon the citizens of Kendallyille, for talking of repudiating their Grand Rapids Railroad Bonds. ' The indications are that a greft deal of bitter fecling will be engendered by the discussion of this question, The Huntington Zlerald thus speaks of the point in controversy: G

“ Various ,individugls and the city of Kendallville took stock in the ‘Grand Rapids and ‘lndiana Railroad to the extent of $83,000. They did so with the understanding that the stock received should be based upon the land grant made to the Company by the State of Michigan, now worth millions of dollars. A set ot sharpers have been working to get the land for the building of the road, and, also, to collect the: gmounts donated by the people along the route. . The Standard notifies the “swindlers” that they cannot obtain the money promised by Kendallville, unless they deliver up the lands.” - -

- Goop HoTEL.—Among 'the best hotels in the State we class the Teegarden House at LaPorte, V. W. Axtell, proprietor.— Being something of a tiaveler, and enjoying the reputation of possessing a decided relish for a “good square meal,” we are usually soxnew?xat particular in noticing the management of hotels; heénce it affords ug'pleasute to inform the traveling public that in éverything thgt renders a sojourn at a public house agreeable, the “Teegarden”: meets:}gvery reasonable expeetation. Mr. Axtell is one of those clever, whole souled landlords who aim to furnish the traveler with that which all good people so much enjoy—a pleasant home.

Tue mangler of the Indianian—he who has a deadly abhorrence of manly Independence—talks incoherently about “‘getting down,” cbaracterizes our remarks concerning Cofigre‘ssman Williams as, “silly, far-fetched and false,” and indulges in those nonsensieal exclamations that have so frequently elicited a pitiful smile in journalistic ,circles. Reub, we are fearful, is incorrigible. With a stubborness truly amazing he persists in'his favorite occupation of “bushwhaeking,” and will probably remain unsuited for 1 gitimate ‘warfare until all the measures of “reconstruction” that human foresight may de vise have been applied to his case.

Tue Huntington Democrat pays the following handsome and well-deserved comfplignent toa meritorious gentleman and an able officer: !

*“We are exceedingly gratified to learn that Hon.. F. R. Myers, the efficient and courteous. General Ticket Agent of the Pittsburgh, Foft Wayne & Chicago Railway, has been promoted to the responsible osition of General Ticket Agent of the ?’ennsylvania Central R:ih‘oacfi General Myers enjoys a wide reputation as a competent railway official, and his advancement is a just recognition of eminent services in the prst.” | - :

~We respectfully refer the delicate and gentle gazellg, to the files of his own paper of the year 1866, for a proper definition of the word *uncouth.”—lndianian. The reference is finfofiu‘gx?te for you, gentle Reub. It has revealed the fact that you “fibbed" in attributing language to us that had never been used in these columns against you. Try again.

- Wz are requested to notify all persons indebted to the firm of Moore & Tharp that their accounts must be settled imme diately, either by cash or note, or the accounts will be placed. in the hands of the proper officers for collection. ~ *49

ENGEL & CO.

» Alcohol or Spirits of any kind,

Is different from all others. -It is composed of .the puare juice or VITAL PRINCIPLE OF ROOTS, HERBS and BARKS (or as xedicinally termed, extracts), the ‘worthless or inert portions, of the ingredients not being used. Therefore, in-one bottle of this Bitters there is contained as much medicinal virtue as will be found in several gallons of ordinary mixtures.— The Roots, &c:, used in this Bitters are grows in Germany, their vital principles extracted in that country by a écientific Chemist and forwarded to the. manafactory in this city, where they are cowpounded andbottled. Containing no spirituous ingredients, this- Bitters is free trom the objections urged against all’ others ; no desire for -timnlanu,enq%e izgucod from their use, they cannot make drunkaids, and caunot, under any cireumstances, have any but beneficial effect. .

Was compounded for those not.inclined to extreme bitters, and is intended for use in cases when some aleoholic stimnlant is required in cl?:pneouon with the Tonic properties of the Bitters. 'Each bottle of the Tonic: contains one bottle of the Bitters, combined with pure BANTA CRUZ RUM, and flavored in such a uuno:ant, the extreme bitterness of: the Bifters is overcome forming a preparation thatishighty agreeable .nnd‘{fleunt to the palate, and containing the mediei virtue of the Bitters.. The price of the Tonie is $1.50 per bottle, which many persons think too hi{h. They must take into consideration that the stimulant used is s;uarn;nteed'to be of a pure quality. A poor artiele could be.furnished ata cheaper price, but is it not better to pay a little more and have a, good article t:' A medicinal preparation should contain none but. the best ingredients, and.they who ex: peoct to obtain a cheap compound will most ¢ertainly be cheated. = e
