: From the Argus of January 19th. - LaPorte Transformed, ¢ . What marvelous changes way, sometimes, take place in & single night’ In our youth we used to read with eredulous delight, wonderful dtories of people going to sleep at night in crazy ¢ld houses, which were changed by sgme ingenious fairy into splendid palaces, and waking in the mornirg surrounded by the most dazzling magnificence. But thoge storieswere nothing to the transformation which thigcity of Laporte underwent last Friday night. Its prosaic citizens, used as they.are to the u;ud, the dir!’, and the ‘darkness —notwiihhtnnfling the exireme luminosity of the Inmps wihich sprinkle our streets so profusely—never closed their eyes upon a hlacker, muddier, dirtier town fhan upon that self-same night; nor did they ever open them upor such & paradise of loveliness hr,f_op the spcceq&jngmmrnin‘g. . The f&IY tale’ was more [than realized. Al night long, while mortals slept, the spirits of the air had wrought with~unwearying fingers; and when the morniug light broke upon the earth every object was a miracle of beauty.
