“NECK TIE PAKTIES" huve dawned in ‘the rural districts. A neck tie party i ~defined by ‘an exchange as being ome 'where each lady -aftending the party makes a neck tie of the same material as the dress she. wenrs. These are taken to where the party ig to be held and placed in & Lag. - When the gentlemen arrive each one must go to the bag and take out & neck tie,and it is his duty to wait upon the lady, during the evening, who wears the dr;esz;‘cnrresponding in material with the neck tie. : s The still later novelty in the way of parties, is that of the sheet and pillowcase. In these, each guest is dressed in a eheet, with a pillow-case drawn over the head, holes being made in the case for eyes, nose and mouth, The ‘gvuesgs wear their purty habiliment under the sheets, aud at the supper table the sheets and pillow cases are removed, the same as mhsks at ® masquerade. ¥
J, “Mr. Stunper” is the graphic pseadoniym of a traveling correspondent of the Ligonier BANNER. Mr. Stunner is hetty in corporeal weight as well as in descrip tive writing. He is also a capital judge of *luscions broiled beefsteak and deli cious coffe.” We don’t wonder that he ie'w stunner. He is on his* winding way to Snyder county, Pa., his former home, to renew old acquaintances and enjoy a socinl game of ** blumsock.”"—Huntington Démo crat. !
The above statement is correct, only “Mr. Stunner ” is not * hefty in corporeal weight ;" neither was he on his * winding way to ‘Snyder county,” and his former residence was in Ohio. “ Mr. Stunner ® Las too much regard for the feelings of * Mrs. Stunner " to :allow himself to pe carried away in a plumpsack. .
.Tue late fire in Ligonier bas had the effect of opening the eyes of our business men and others of the importance of good Jinsurance — Insurance in companies that pay their losses promptly upon an equitable basis, and do not fail as soon as a loss nccpr's‘. The Home Insurance Company Of New York, one of the_ best companies Jin the United States, had a loss in the lete fire, for the equitable adjustment and prompt payment of which reference is made to J. M, Chapman & Co.b‘ “A stitch in tinie saves nine.” He who ‘cannot af- ' ford to insure, cannot surely afford to lose his property by tire. - - L. 0. &D. W. Green are agents for this company. ' * » e e A VERY pleasant re-union dinner was partaken of by a number of old citizens of Elkhart county, at the residence of David Berkey, in Clinton township, on Saturday last, in accordance with a compact entered into by the respective parties to indulge in this pleasantry at the close of each year. The Goshen Democrat, in referring to gatherings of this character, very appropriately observes : e *“ We believe such gutherings have ‘a good effect, and we would be glad to see more ot them.- People can hardly avoid having their little troubles and misunder standings, and oftentimes they are at enmity for years, just because an opportuni - ty of this kind does not present itself for them to get together, and bury the past, ~and commence nnew, und be guod fricnds in the luture.” : ¢
IT being quite evident that the editor of the Indianian finds considerab.e.comfort in sticking to a falsehood, we deem it unnecessary to pay further attention to his silly charge that the chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee issued “that circular” on the eve ot the Oc tober election. Were we not so thoroughly convinced that Gen. Williams knows the real author to be a radical office holder, we might be induced to pursue the subject further, and possibly compel him to acknowledge that he grossly wisrepresented and traduced the chairmdn of the I emocratic State Central Committee.
SoME of our cantemporaries plav havoc | in the transmission of foreign news. The Ft. Wayne Sentinel, for instance] renders the North German Reichstag “North German Seichesty,” and in another part speaks of the “German Princes of House (Hanse) towns.” Toone who has some knowledge of European afl'»;iré, or understands the German langusge, these innucent little blunders appear quite amusing. | ———— P, IT comes with exceeding ill grace from sucha ninny as that of the Steuben Republican to talk about the “sad disproportion between the cerebral and ventric - ular regions” of others. The conspicuous lack of brains betrayed by the columns of that worse than useless sheet should for ever cause it to observe silenée more intense than death on such subject. el @ P Tne editors of Northern Indiana are doubtless aware that the semi annual ss sembling of the editors and publishers of the State will be beld at Indianapolis, on ‘Thursday, the 12th instant, Let there be a general attendance, as much business of importance will be transacted.
