Tue Tax-ravers of Elkhart county are under special obligationto an “*Old Line Democrat” who, in a series of articles published in the Goshen Democrat, exposes the mismanagement of county affairs by the radical officers. These articles are ably written, replete with facts, and cannot fail to wield great influence at the next election. The ill natured attacks upon the writer of these articles by the Goshen Z%mes conelusively prove that somebody feels badly hurt, and that the “situation” is becoming very uncomforta-: ble for radical candidates, et A ; It affords ‘us no small degree. of pleasure to thankfully acknowledge the receipt of numerous letters from all portions of the county containing assurances of undiminished friendship and expressions of confidence in ourability to thwart the designs of the Radicals in prejudicing Democrats against the action of the Kendallville convention last Thursday. These encouraging letters are doubly welcome, firstly because they breathe the spirit of genniae friendship, and sccondly becauso they furnish conclusive'proof that neither Democrats of Noblecounty,
~ German Meeting at Kendallville. A meeting of German and American ‘citizens was held August Bth, at Rossbacher Hall, for the purpose of expressing sympathy with the people of Germany in their struggle against that usurper, the Emperor of France, and at the same time to deliberate on the practicability of giving pecuniary aid to the wounded in battle and the widows and orphans caused by this unholy crusade, Mr. George Glatte was unanimously chosen Chairman, and Charles G. Aichele, Secretary of the meeting. Mr. Glatte after taking the chair, explained in a short speech in German, the purpose of the meeting and announced the victories already achieved by tle German arms, which was enthusiastically received by those present. Mr. James Colegrove, ‘Esq, was then called for al speech /in English, which he made ina masterly manner, evincing.great sympa‘thy with the German cause, and in which he showed.that he tbofioughly understands the question at issue in this struggle and | for which he was repeatedly cheered by | the house. After the conclusion 6“ Mr. ‘ Colegrove’s speech, on motion, & committee ot fivé was appointed by the Chair to ‘ draft resolutions in accordance with the sentiments of the meeting. The Committee, consisting of the following gentlemen : Oscar Rossbacher, Rev. Mr. Duechmig, Reuben Miller, C. G. Aicheie and Dr. N. - Wnenreas, The present Emperor of IFrance has waged war against German Unity without any just cause, and has attempted to invade German soil, and WHEREAS, This war, besides the loss of life, must- be the causs of great suffering and destitution, and . 'WHEREAS, During the late war in America substantial aid and sympathy was rendered by the Germans to the Federal cause, therefore be it . Resolved, By the German and native citizens of Kendallville, that this struggle on the part of Germany under the leader: ship of Prussia is in our eyes not a dynastic quarrel, but a struggle of .the German nation against the dictation and robbing policy of the Napoleonites. Resolved, That this struggle on the part of Germany is not only a struggle in the interest of Germany, but in the in: terest of Universal Peace and the national integrity of Europe and America, as the attempt to create an Empire in Mexico has demonstrated,
Resolved, That in this struggle Germany challenges the sympathy of the Ameri-, can nation and;the American government. Resolved, That the sympathies of the German American citizens are increased in the hope that the arch ewemy of German.unity, who has divided her for cen-. turies, shall be humbled, and be made peaceable, and Germany through her victories to become a free, united and great nation. i T
Resolved, That we substantiate our sympathies by contributing our mite for the relief of the svohnded, the widows and orphans, caused by this struggle, and for that purpose hold a picnic on the 18th of August, the net proceeds of which to be appropriated as above specified. ; Resolved, = That the proceedings of this meeting be published in- all the papers in Noble county and the Fort Wayne Staats-zeitung, and on motion of Mr. Col grove it was v v :
~ Resolved, That a copy of these proceedings be sent to the office of State of the Ptussian Government, ;i Upon motion of Mr. Wichman an Exe cutive Committee was then appointed with power to select a President, Secretary and Cashier, and to appoint all necessary Committees for the pending pic-nic, after which the meeting adjourned, subJject! to the call of the Executive Committee. - GEORGE C. The Magnetic Springs in Michigan. .y Orseco, MicH., Aug. 15, 1870. DEAR BANNER:—There are quite a -number of persons in Noble county who inré desirous of having a truthful story about.these famous magnetic springs. I have tried-them for myself, and as to what good they Liave cone for me will be better told to those who know me, when I come ‘home.- At the present I am Joing well ; bave thrown aside my cane, and I can run about as nimbly as any one, while T suffer no pain. My rations are devoured ‘with a relish, and I think I will entirely recover my health iu a short time.
There are numcrous cases here with which I have become acquainted, that were a great deal worse than mine, which are now wholly recovered and sound.— One man, named }’_h_ilip Dreisbach, from White Pigeon, had been stricken with palsy, his arm was crooked, his jaw was drawn to one side, and he could not talk —he was a frightful sight to behold. In three weeks he was fully restored in shape of body, and now-talks as well as he ever did. Tam acquainted with this gentleman, and converse with him every day, Another case is that of Z. Cole, of Indianapolis. When he came here he was covered from head to foot with scrofulous sores, and was nearly blind. Within four weeks’ time after his arrival here be was cured: ~ o il . :
- Tt is not worth while for me to state particular cases, but I will merely say that there are hundreds heie from all sections of the country, who are deriving benefits from these springs. . - oy The water of the springs is highly magnetic—by holding a knife in it for three or four minutes, the blade becomes sufficiently charged to pick up an eight penny nail. The analysis of the water is:

The people appear to be enjoying an abundance of everything. : « T will venture to say to those of Noble county who are afflicted with palsy, scrofula, rheumatism or nephntis, that if they will come to these springs, they can be quickly and permanently cured.’ i N. E. DoANE. L : : Our Distriet Ticket. Amidst the excitement over the congressional contest, the nomination of W. C. Wilson, Esq., for Circuit Prosecutor, 'W. G. Croxton, Esq., for Common Pi’leas Prosecutor, and Mr. Joseph Zollinger for Joint Representative, seems to be cntirély overlooked. = . . " The convention was extremely fortun: ate in the selection of thesée gentlemen for the positions named. They rii‘"e men of sterling integrity, eminently qualified, and entitled to the warm support of the Democracy and Conservatives. We raise their names to our mast-heads, to-day, and will ‘refer to the individual merits of our candidates at a future period. ; Lt 2 * The Great Plague.: The worst of the great epidemics of the Middle Age was the Black Death. This celebrated plague standing alone in its colossal horror, originated in China in the early part of the fourteenth century. Its accompaniments were ghastly and terrific in the last degree. It overran threequarters of the globe and swept off a hun, dred million human beings. Twenty five million perished sinder the shock in Eu rope. During its prevalence a pestilential Ja gale blew oxer the island of Cyprus, be-’ neath which the inhabitants instantly fell dead by hundreds, as if death had opened a forge in the air and blasted them with fire. In the city of Venice over & hundred thousand died in a few months. S \
- Tue Republicans of Noble county will meet in convention next Saturday for the purpose of nominating a county ticket.— The slate is made up as follows: For Representative, Dr. Norman Teal, editor of the Kendallville' Journal ; Clerk, Col. ,Wm. C. Williams; Treasurer, E. H. Fish er; Auditor, John 'D. Black; Sheriff, Henry Wolf. The main fight will be made over the nomination - for' Auditor and Sheriff. Black has the inside track; but a new candidate may be sprung in the person of A. J. McCollum, of Orange. There is but little doubt of Wolf’s nomination for Sheriff. A lively time may be anticipated. : i
FroM an article in Tuesday's Chicago Tribune it may be inferred that that able journal will give its support to Gen. Hascall, in the congressional contest in the Tenth Distriet. Billy' William§ vote against the Marshall revenue-reform resolution has rendfered him anoiious toa very large number of Republicans.
