- DEAR BANNER :—Some persons in writ: ing up & communieation appear to have a great. taculty of Mulimnd are so strictly formal as to premise a long preface or prolegamena, which nearly fills up the allotted space. A short item and the chapter is complete. This is not ovr forte; we must lay by fysomethmgwg turn c:g or even gét sick” ourself, as was the last week, and then chronicle the event. The Universalists had a good time at their wmmgetzg, last week,_ for all that the crowd were compelled to retreat to the school house, for the morning 1; vice, on account of the rain; being mint an invitation to occupy one of the churches in the place. One of the ministers was assaulted with the question, ‘ when or where is' it to be that ‘every knee shall bow and every torgue shall confess His: nawe?'” Here was a stunuer, for many good people will not be satisfi:@' withany time or place this side of hell fire. Well, it's a free country, we suppose. The Cromwell Minstrels have “played out.” The Wolf Lake boys thought they had ' betfer “refund and . decamp; the “grand moral exhibition” had no charms for them, It scems that some folks are very hard to please. It is really too bad that, after all the trouble and expense to which'the proprietors have been put in getting up a purely “moral show,” consisting of nigger songs and sleight of hand tricks, that it should be thus depreciated. Well, they have the reflection to console them, that the “snaix and wax figurs” of the lamented Ward did'n’t always take. We hope citizens of Ohio will have better taste.

We notice that the steam thresher is being m farm to E{arg;, tzrgi::ng ‘out the, § Crops. .I'riCes are rangE% good wmhimammw. e judge, seeing many farmers are hmuling their wheat, from Pierceton and Larwill, to that market. : NEb. —_———,t— ; Tng: Elkhart “Shoo Fly” club recently played a game with the Goshen “Saxors” that resulted very disastrously to the former.. This afforded the editor of the Go shen Z%mes a golden opportunity to crow lustily over the “Saxon” victory, but he is most beautifully “taken down” by the Elkhart Review in the following pungent paragraph : .. Well, let it crow. . Tie was when Elkbt il give Gosticn odd at the game of base ball, and get away with 'ém easily ; but our peeple now engagod in more useful pursuits, and have little leisure to devote to sports, while our neighbors have pothing to ‘flo but cultivate the graces of ‘the quadrilateral field and Kindred amtisements, . i ; ; e e Mg. E. D. MiLLER of this place has been appointed traveling agent for the “Home" Fire Insurance Company of Columbus, Ohio, and Albany City, of Albany, New York. He has sold his business to Mr. A.J. Banta, and will enter upon;the discharge of his new guhes dur ing the present week. Mr. Miller has acquired considerable knowledge of the in surance business, ald is recognized as one of the most comps=tent and successful local agentsip this section. His experience will be of vast benefit to the company.in whose interesthe will travel, being en. abled thereby to act ‘understandingly in the selection of local agents. o . gl SRI Inanother column we give the revised list of premiums to be awarded by the Noble County Agricultural Sogiety, at the Fair to be held on their grounds, on' the 21st, 22d and 23d of September. The list is a'very liberal one, and should be appreciated by the citizens in this section of the country. - Everybody who has not already done so, should begin preparations for the fair'at once. Fix up something, the best you have, ard bring it in for, exhibition.” /After a time you -may have something really fine, which it wilk be well . for you to learn how to exhibit. Let all combine to make the fair the best in every respect ever held in the ¢ounty.
