¢ 4 Kusoavvosgu 11, 180, DEAR BANNER:—I again greet your intelligent readers, in the “happy New Fourin . g wil g yu that will bring them many uew enjoy‘ments, and open new ‘flelds of usefalness, and a year that will witness the everthrow of at least some of the evils and grievances of society and secure the triumph of right. THE ANNOUNCEMENT of a concert andmusical festival at Mier's Hall on last evéning, was the signal for the assembling of a very respectable audience, notwithstanding the rain was falling during the evening. The programme published that there were to be twenty voices under the direction of Prof. Burmeister, but owing to some unforeseen circumstance, the full chorus was not present: this was announced, together with the fact that the programme would be somewhat clianged in consequence, although had it not been mentioned, we doubt if any in the aadience had noticed any deficiency, such general satisfaction having been given by the programme. ¢ :

It is so seldom that we have the pleasure of listening to good music that we experience no small degree of embarrassment in endeavoring to express the pleasure and gratification enjoyed while listening to the performance. While the music was excellent, with sowae parts deliciously fine, the only obstacle to mar the entire evening’s entertainment was the persistency of some small boys—and some that were not s 0 small—in making a disturbance during the execution of some of the pieces. The chorus consisted of the following wyoices: Mrs. Heiser and Miss Oechtering, of Mishawaka, solo; Misses Winger and Reager, soprano ; Misses Reager and Win ger, alto.; Mr. Charles Thiele, tenor ; and Messrs. Leonard Wagner, J. Waldschmidt and J. Roehrig, bass,—all under the leadership of Prof. Burmeister, late of Berlin, Prussia. :

The singing by the full chorus in “ See we are a music band,” “Ein Kerchlein steat im blauen,” “What sounds more sweetly,” and the final ** Magnificat,” was good, while the rich voices of Mrs. Heiser, in “T have geen thee in my dream.” and of Miss Oechtering, in “Skating,” were beyond compare, filling the house with melody, and both pieces calling for a repetition., Decidedly the best of the instru mental pieces was the execution of * Lu, crecia’ Borgia,” by Prof. Burmeister on the violin with Mr. Wagnerand Miss Luln Lauferty on the piuno ; “ Carnival of Venice,” by Mr. Roehrig on the violin with piano acecompaniment, and “ Elbatio,” by Prof. Burmeister ‘on the violin and Mr. Wagner at the piano. : Another performance is to be given this evening, with an’ entire change of programme, b

. PRoFEssioNAL.—It will be femembered that Dr. E. H. Cameron will be at the Helmer House from the 17th to the 22nd inst., for the treatment of diseases of the lungs, eyes and ears. The Carlton (C. MASON, 8414 . Pickwick, Winona, Co., Minn. The language of nature and experience demonstrates that whoever would enjoy the pleasures of food, the beauties of landscape, the joy of companionship, the riches of literature, or the honors of station and renown, must preserve their health. The effect of foul, injurious food entering the stomach, is to derange the digestive organs and produce headache, loss of appetite, unrefl{eslfinfi sleep, lfow spirits, feverish burnings, ete., which are the symptoms of that horrid fiisene. Dyspeprs:a,which.assumes a thousand shapes, and points towsrds a miserable life and premature decay. PraNTATION BITTERS will prevent, overcome ‘and’ counteract all of these effects.
