’ .~ Erxpanviviuie, Oct. 4th, ’69. M. Eviro :—Haying been unexpectledly called away from town on Monday last, I was unable to write to you cecording to promise, but hope to be more punctual in fature. I understand the Silver Band was at your town last week, and I suppose you heard them. They talk some ofigoing down to the Fair, and if they do, will no doubt draw a good crowd, and a great many would go on account of hearing their sweet music. * I see Mr. “Paul Pepperpod,” of Albion, Las played out, or in other'words “ausgespielt. No wonder, he got that long name in 80 often that it must have completely broken him down. Croka and his partner Croka, Jr., of this city are wide awake every week, but I don’t kncw how long it will last. & The Band boys are somewhat down on Ishmael, of the Journal, They think he bad better leave that snare drum alone bereafter. . b - The dance here on the 24th of last moqth was a success, notwithstanding our big dancer was off to Niagara. Of course Jim, was there with his sister and seemed to enjoy himself very much. Harry with his wife and Charlie with his adorable, Bell, was on hangd, and scemed to be havipga good time. John Brillhart was there Miss Jennie Heist, from Corunna. Abe and Alice danced untiltheit feet were sore, also a number of others which it will take too long to name.

Eprtor :—There is a bare possibility that our town in the end will not be named for your correspondent, as some of the “old settlers” manifest a tenacious attachment to-the “old name,” Swan.— ‘With said possibility staring us in the face, we have Liten trying to console ourselves by singing the above lines. During the past week several car loads of Irish and Swiss laborers have been scat tered " along the rail road, and as many _more are expected early next week. Our ‘enterprising townsmen, Dr. Taylor and 8. i Broughton, are now engaged in erecting a large stave and shingle factory, sawmill, &c., combined. It is also rumored that the Brillhart Bros., of Kendallville, intend ‘to build a flouring-mill. Come on gentlemen, here is the place to make such an investment pay. The Lutheran ' Church council of the Albion Charge, which met at this place a few weeks since, has again employed Rev. C. C. Sink ‘as their Pastor for the coming year. “Tmis ‘part of his charge is in a prosperous con ditior, and the reverend gentleman is highly esteemed by his people here. Last ‘Saturday your éox:xfespon_dent attended a ‘musical pic-nic near town, given by that prince o&ingers, Chas. Reed. We were ) the orator of the day, and from our elevated position we can report as follows: Ist, for sweet music; 2d, for rich pic-nic din-. ners; Bd, for the number of good-looking ladies, this place cannot be equaled by any other ‘community in the county, (except. Mount Pleasant). - The sclect school at the Centre school house is ‘ progressing finely, and is all that its friends.could desire. = *
