¥ Republican Divisions. ! Mr. Pratt, the K üblican leader in the Connecticnt’ Legislatare, told the truth when he said that the party. is about t 6 fall-to- pieces. ‘A party of hate, as the Albany Argus well reuarks, cannot long be a party of much cohesion. ~ Give to the Radicals a section of country like the South to hate or & class like the foreigners to persecute, antl so long as the object of their malevolent passion is before ~ them, they will be unmted bithe bonds of a common antipathy. ' 'Let circumstances deprive them of their victims, and they will hate and persecute one _another. : MEde In Maine, they have divided—got two factions, both committed : to vindictive and proseriptive temperancelegislation, but separated upon™ the question of the spirits, Under the circumstances, there is a chanco for the Democrats to win.— ~ They should bave been beaten, ycars ago, in Maine—for ' their blind policy at Washington has: ruined the. ship- ».4‘ building interests of that Statex , = | . The Augusta Standard says : : " “The' times are auspicious. ' The ‘Radical party is divided{) ' It has two candidates in the field, and the indications are that there will be a lively war between the factions. General Smith may be elected if the democra~cyare true to themselves and their cause. If General Smith receives as many voteg as Mr. ‘Pillsbury- did last year, he will be the next Governor of Maine.” § 8744

Robert Stewart, President of the National bank of Chittenaugo, to a draft for $5,000, payable to the order of Rev. Mr. Greenfeaf, a Methodist ‘minister =at Lee Centre.: Mitchell -and . Greenleaf look alike, and the former deceived Mec.: Oarleton, of New York, the publigher, into identifying him as Greenleaf, to whose orderl::ge’ draft was payable at the fourth National bank of New York. Mitchell got the money and invested it in government securities. [His resemblsnce to Greenleaf led to this detection. He has restored $4,600 and effected ‘his escape. =~ -

Some queer changes are going on at the South. At Jonesbora, Tennessee, Cozfreesman Roderick R.
