FATAL ACCIDENT.—A terrible accident ooccurred ofl, fihflid?fi west of Port Mitchell; near the residence of James Charter, one day last weck, resulting in tle ‘sub- [ sequent death of Mr. Frederick Nicodemus, The particulars of this heart-rend-ing occurrence are as follows : Mrs. Charter’ and a neighboring woman saw him violently thrown from his horse, his head striking against a small walnut tree; he. immediately got up, caught the horse and replaced the saddle—the girth of which had been broken—then walked a short distance and sat down bya tree, ‘against which he supported’ himself--They not recognizing him, supposed him a drunken man; however, after a few minutes, they ventured to go to the spot, and immediately recognized him. He gave them the particulars of his accident, and requested that the best surgeon in the county be sent for, not naming whom he wished to visit him. Before he could be rcmoved to Mr. Charter's residence he went into a deep comatose condition, ac companied with heavy stertorous breathing, and the escape of saliva from his ‘mouth tinged with blood. Two physi-] cians were sent for, and after an examina | tion informed the friends thatra thor.cic vessel had been ruptured, and that. igfis stupor was -caused by a rushof blgod to the head. They cupped him along the spine, and treated him for pulmonary appoplexy for twenty-three hours, when Dr. Clark, of Albion, who had been sent for, arrived, and immediately discovered a terrible fracture of a portion of the left parietai, and contignous part of the occipital bone near the upper and left side of the occipital protuberance. Life was too near extinct to warrant an operation, and he breathed his last in less than an hour after Dr. C.'s arrival. |He leaves a.wife and young family, and numerous friends' to mourn his violent and untimely death. |

Our Crrizens are now taking. steps preparatory to Widening Cavin street by moving back several . blocks, which' 'h’{we since the location and building up of our town, been a constant eye sore to visitors and an inconvenience to our citizens, ~Efforts have heretofore been..made. to effect this change, butowing to the obstinacy of some of our property owners, all of whom would be pecuniarily benefitted by this change, have been but partially spceessfull. This measure -now stands upon‘a better basis than heretofore, and no dotjlbt_ our business strects will ere long be widencd and compare favorably with those of our sister towns. The legislature at its last session, passed a law giving ol incoporated towns the power to wiaen, lengthen, and straighten their highways irrespective of property owners who 'l;'nay be injured or benefitted by such act, provided, all .damages be properly asscssed ‘and remunerated, We | Hope these buildings will be moved back voluntarily, and thus save the contention and expense that must otherwise follow.

L We suggest to the publishers of this Congressional District, the propriety of assembling at some convenient point, during the summer, for the purpose of discussing newspaper questions of practical importance, and becoming ' better acquainted with each ‘other. We have ever been favorable towards publisher’s conventions, but. believe they would be far more effective and agreeable if confined to smaller districts than is the usual rule. We heartily indorse the proposition of our contemporary, and would respectfully, suggest Friday, July 23d, as a suitable day, and the city of Goshen as the most convenient place, for the holding of the proposed convention, -We name the city of Goshen from the fact that our contemporaries at Warsaw, Co{umbid City, and Huntington can reach that ' point easier than any other town, whilst those from other parts of the Distriet will experience no inconvenience from this arrangement. Let us have an immediate agreement as to time and place for a .meeting of the editorial fraternity of the 10tb District.

Itis by the use of such language that disloyalty is known. The Lebanon Patriot says the Court House of that town was converted into a house of ill fame on a night not long gince. It also says that a decent lady cannot walk the streets without danger of insult from libertines, who are constantly on the lookout for a strumpet.— All of which &ndicates a bad state of morals at Lebanon.

Levi Rich, aged about 19 years, son of ‘Thomas Rich, broom maker, met with a terrible accident at New London, How: ard county, on Monday, at the planing mill of Mr. Hunt. He was turning broom handles, when stooping to pick up something over two belts, he caught-his arm between the belts. He siezed a post with’ the other arm and held on. The arm entangled in the belts was actually pulled off, crushing it from below the elbow nearly to the shoulder.—Kokomo Tribune. A terrible tragedy occurred at Covington, in this State, on the evening of June 12th. Fred Remster shotand killed Mrs, Jones, a respectable widow lady, aged about 75 years. He then shot and mortally wounded Miss Beckelheim, aged 17, He then attempted to shoot John F.
