Fational Banner. e A Model Republican, That intense hater of the British aristocrats, the Hon, Zach. Chandler, of Michigan, is dbout to astonish the enemies of the United States in Englind by a demonstration of the sumplicity of a true American republican. He'is now in New York making preparations for a visit to Europe. The Detroit Hree Press s the following account of the style in which the Hon. Zachariah means to present himself among the proud noblemen of the effete countries of the wcfld. kb : His wife and daughter, each take with them a colored female &cérvant, and he takes two black n.ale servants. These servants are to L fitted out while ih New York with ‘a very showy livery. The coats of the men ser[ ants. dre to be a lavender color, with white buttons, upon which is the Michigan coat of arms, except that the’stags support the letter C, which is of red ecnamel, with gold edge. - The fe. male servants wear large belt Duckles bearing the same -dcr;igns as that upon the buttons. The hats of the men are black, with & wide purple band, and large silver cockade in the centre of which is one of the buttons aforesaid.
The advocates ot.?}i_lhe néw Empire will be delighted with the start thus made by the Michigan ' republican. - Under the new regime he will, in consideration of his high pesition in the party, have the rank marshal of the Empire with the proud title of Grand Duke of Michigan. It is" impossible t+ imngiiw the feclings of envy which will fill thg hearts of the British arsitocrats !when the noble Chandler, attended by this g&rgcous retinue, makes his appearance amopg the fashionables of London Mall. They will then begin to believe that we are a truly great_ people. / : » i o“——;—-—-— .. Senator Morton’s Argument. . A writer in the' Terre Haute Journal handles Morton’s argument on the “law of quorpms” without gloves. He says: “None but & villain,a demagogue, a dishonest politician and a man whoshopes to continue hi‘mse{f and party in power by appealing to the depraved, uneducated, lilliterate negroes, like - Morton, would have ever ventured to occupy sev: cral columps of & newspaper to [place such a dishonest and disgraceful opinion before the people, so utterly at variance ‘with the provisions of the constitution of the State of In(gliaua. It took n first class villain and 'em?ogue to'indubate such pettyfogging, and Morton was just the man to bring| forth this ludicrous, ridiculous and villainous opinion, because he is unscrupulous encugh [to do anything or give ahy sort of opinign calculated to enhance his own and hig party's interest.. Thel RadicM=villains|in the Legislature had mL more sense thanjallow. Morton to stuff them /with the |belief
that their action would be legal anfi constitutional, and no more pluck nor spirit than to let him turg'on the thumb serews, .and apply the lash/ to their backs,|wheén one doubting"tlu:‘&v‘gality and constitutionality of the matters showed signs of reiuctance or ‘unwiilingness to ovpy his imperious commands; Morton’s opinion is utterly worthless, is & bugget of] nonsense and tautology, yet it is thought by his friends to be sound, and such papers as the Gazette attempt to bolster itjup as 1 master argument ; and an unscrupulons, dishonest radical Congress may| and “probably will, take the same view pf the matter. No,doubt this opinion of Mor: ton's hns’beén given to gunide angl gov ern Congress at it next sessivn, so|far at keast 'as Indiana and Tllc fifteenth amendment are concerned. | Baker was |urged by party discipline and the party Irnsht'fi ¢ign thesiniquitous bill, but, shaki 1z his head, said, “I doubt it§ constitutionality, and will certify it in lfxis way.™ LU e et A P—— - 4 TS the President a Freezf Trader ? | According tO‘a!dinntch in the New ~York Fvening Pest, alprominent official, who is a strong protectionist, recently called npon President Grant for the purpose of ascertaining his views upon the tariff question. . Inreply to 4 question the President said that he was decidedly opposed to any legislation - which had for its object an increase in the taxation of articles or merchan‘dise imported into the United Htates. It was useless to gay that the reyvenues of the qopntry, dgmanded it. - for such « was not the case, and it was far|better " that many of the| high dnties a ready imposed be strict'grh off, and not burden the country with still higher ones. He would not conceal the fact that he believed a small tariff was necessary, but he'would like.tp see the revenues of the country rpfrisgd as far as possible from - internal - taxes, and not from “heavy duties upon imported goods.

FM BRA(‘.ING the scvqral modes of treatment, 4 45 practised by the difi'erent schools of Physiciane, 8o that a person may select the method that may be preferred, or the one most. convenient, or even resort to a second or third, orto a combination of-two or more, whenever desirable. The work forms a thoroughly reliable guide to the detection and treatment of all diseases that can either be checked in their carecr, or treated entirely without the aid ofa Physician. It would be preposterous to claim: that by the use of any book, the necessity of sometimes calling a physician, can be done away with, for there are many cases that require the application of professional skill and large experience, but it must be perfectly plain to’ any one, that a large majority of thfle minor allments and some of the more severe ones to which flesh is heir, can be treated with complete success by the aid of such a treaties as this; while some diseases run their course with such rapidity that no-time is left to send for a Physician, 7The remedy must be at hand, and the application made at once, or it will be foo late. : The flrst requisite in case of sickness is to knew |, what is the matter, and, secondly, what to do.— |: To this end, in this work: = - a Ist. An index of symptoms is given, by comparing which, with the symptoms as manifested in the patient, the true character of the disease can readily be detected, and the proper remidies apblied. Pl : By thus leaving out everything ‘that does not strictly. belong to such a work, it is found practicable to give a fuller and much more satisfactory presentation of the subjects in one modest volame | that retails for $2.50 or $3.00, than can be found in any of the bulky volumes that sell for twice or hree times as much. Some people seem to estimate the value of 8 book by its bulk; they do not stop to think that a diamond is worth a million times its bulk of iron. ¢ If agents have been nple to dispose of immense ditions of similar works (having much torecommend them, perhaps, but quite inferior to- this;) at from 85 to $lO per copy, it is not to be wondered at that there shoyld be)a wide spread demand and ready sale for a lfoo_k like this, that gives more information in one-fourth the space and at one-third the cost, i e ¢ B
It requires no argument to convince 8 person that 1t is well worth the smail sum of $2.50 or $3 to have, right in one’s own house, a reliable Family Physteian, slways at hand, ready to be Comsulted, and to give the very best of advice, free of charge. The Doctor’s bills saved, by the use of this book, would amount to more every yesr, in any ordinary family, than several times its cost, 0 Bay nothing of the amount of suffering saved, ang the ,pqfi%n@g:g)tf lifeitself.
