An extra allowance of $50 was made to Matthew Little for his services as assessor in 1 854, by the following vote: Ayes, Messrs. Avery, Boaz, Colley, Graydon, Karns, Keeley, and Seibert, 7; Noes, Messrs. Dunlap, Gowan, Jones, Nelson, Titts, and Tiuxes, 6. ' '.'..' ... On motion of Dr. Dunlap, the clerk was authorized to contract with Aynew, of Philadelphia, for 1000 feet of hose, at 75 cents per foot. ' ' .An account from the Gas Company, for gas furnished last- year, together with a contract for furnishing gas last year, was, on motion of Dr. Dunlap, referred to the judiciary committee, with instructions to examine and report if the city, is liable for the same, and to make amendments in the contract. .- ; On motion of Mr. Boaz, the Engineer was directed to set this grade stakes on Delaware street, between the Madison State road and South street, ' j :- " '" - -i.- i ' ' On motion of Mr. Avery, the Engineer was directed to survey and establish the grade on New Jersey street, north of North street. .;, ;, ' On motion of Mr. Jones, the Engineer was directed to make an estimate for a bridge across the canal on Georgia street. . . , On motion of Mr. Jones, the judiciary committee was directed to report an ordinance in relation to measurement and sealing, by the city sealer of weights and measures, of all carts or wagons hauling wood or coal. . i On motion of Mr. Nelson, the judiciary committee was instructed to inquire into the expediency of requiring railroad trains to slop when funerals are crossing their track. 1 '. i.'.Thfi.
