-, Tuesday, Jan. 23. Senate. Nothing of importance transpired in the Senate this morning. A number of unimportant resolutions were adoptd, Hfid tlic follow iii bills passed: A bill to regulate the crossing of highways and private roads by railroads; to amend an act to revise, simplify and abridge the rules, practice, pleadings, etc., in criminal cases in courts of this State; to regulate the fees of County Auditors for transferring lands for taxation; enabling parties to convey titles, tenements, hereditaments, etc.; in relation to Plank, Macadamized, Turnpike and Graveled roads; for the protection of the Sabbath; providing for the takiag effect of all laws passed; eonfirming the title of certain Swamp lands; authorizing railroads to make running contracts,' and sell, or lease parts of their roads to other railroad companies, and a joint resolution asking Congress to patent Swamp lands purchased of the United States under the act of Congress donating them to this State, Senate then adjourned till Wednesday morning. , House. Reports were made, in favor of a bill to authorize the Auditor of State to retain so much of the interest on stocks of Free Banks in this State, as will pay all taxes due from such banks, which was read a second and third time and passed; in favor of. a bill to authorize railroad companies to create a preferred stock; and in favor of distributing the school taxes in the counties where collected. Resolutions to reduce the number of Representatives and Senators; to repeal an act to establish Courts of Conciliation; relative to gaming and gaming houses; inquiring of the Superintendents of the Benevolent Institutions of the State, the number of persons in each, immediately' descended from parents allied to each other, by the ties of consanguinity, as near as first and second cousins; and relative to the assessment of real property were introduced and disposed of. Bills to authorize guardians to mortgage real estate for money borrowed for the education and maintainance of wards; requiring written briefs to be filed in the Supreme Court: to repeal 10th section of an act establishing Courts of Conciliation; relative to official bonds and oaths; for the appointment of Notaries and admitting evidence of previous intercourse or unchastityjin behalf of the defense in cases of rape, 6eductiorf, fcc, were read a first time and passed

A Senate bill to authorize the Auditor of State to surrender the bonds of Free Banks not paying specie, was read tho first and second time and with amendments was committed to the Judiciary Committee. . SENATE. Wednseday, Jan. 24. Petitons presented by Mr. Woods from citizens of Clark county praying for a charge in weight of coal; Senate appointed a committee to inquire into the condition of the free bank department of the Auditor's office; bill amending the law for levying township road tax, was reported; several resolutory were adopted; bills were introduced to amend an act for the more uniform mode of doing township buisness; to amend the 540th section of the act regulating the practice and pleading in courts. Bills passed to repeal the act to prevent railroad companies from changing their depots; House bill to amend the incorporating towns and cities. The files being cleared, the Senate adjourned at an early hour. , The afternoon was consumed in discussing the contested election case from the county of Harrison. A minority report from the committee on Elections was made. This report was rejected and the majorty report concurred in ayes 25, nays 16. - House. Petitions were presented to improve the breed of horses; to require railroad companies to keep efficient cattle guards, and to make their property subject to execution without appraisment on judgment obtained against them for the killing of stock. Reports. Bill to provide for the service of process on witnesses by copy, reported back with an amendment, which was adopted; bill reported to authorize the erection of a permanent fence around the military grounds, to be used by the State Board of Agriculture for its annual fairs; against the expediency of fixing by law a uniform

city was robbed last Saturday morning,' of from 10,000 to 15,000, in bankable funds and gold, by Frank May, the Cashier, and nephew of Col. May, the owner of tho Bank. Frank was heard from in Cleveland, from which place he sent the

keys of the Bank and safe, and also tho key of

the Christian Church, that he had at the time he left, in which he had been teachinu a sinmnir school the evening before. Col. May announces in a card that he will pay the depositors in the bank, and the bonds in the Auditor's hands will redeem the hills of the bank and secure the bill holder. Youn? ble character up to the time of the robbory, and has frequently had in his possession ten times the amount abstracted. There is something t O singularconnected with this robbery we cannot understand it. Since the above was written, the following letter was received by Col. May. Mr. U. A. Crane received a letter from Frank, dated at Crestline, enclosing a note left with him for collection, and a check for $200, t,ie amount paid on the note. Crestline, Ohio, Jan. 21, 1055. Dear Colonel: With a nervous hand, I undertake to write you a note. I left Indianapolis, I presume, rather unexpectedly to you. I have taken a step which I senrcely had an idea of two hours before I left; a step that makes me heartsick to thing of, but one I have not the courage to retrace. I hope you may forget me, and pity

my weauness. I did not see any way to get out of our financial difficulty, and I had not courage to stand the storm. I send you the keys of the office and safe by express to-day. You will find the Rens-salaei-currency you got of Bowen and Woolley in the safe. i i I have with me about $7,000 being all in the Bank except this mentioned above. 1 shall leave here in the morning, but where I do not know. I hope I shall not be pursued, as I shall not be taken back to Indianapolis alive.' I cannot write more. . WM. F.
