The following highly complimentary notice of our delegation in Congress, and particularly of the Hon. Jssss D. Bright, is an extract, from the letter of a gentleman now in Washington, a Whig, to a Whig friend in this city. We publish it to show the manner in which a disinterested witness speaks of our State and Representatives :
" I need hardly tell you, that I never hear our
State spoken of, but I feel proud of hailing from
one that occupies so enviable a position as she
does on the Slavery question.
"Indiana is looked upon here as one of the soundest States (. e. free States) in the Union ; and her delegation in Congress have, I think, faithfully represented their constituents on that question. Indiana has shown that she does not want to harbor the slaves and property of the South. Neither does she wish to support their
old and worn-out free negroes. And, without
any wish to disparage the claims of others, I
must be permitted to say, that our worthy and talented Senator, Jesse D. Bright, has done as
much, if not more, than any other person in placing
her where she now stands. Certainly, we have never had a more faithful representative of Hoosier frankness, candor, and independence," Asking
nothing but what is right, and submitting to nothing wrong;" and possessing, as he does, the entire confidence of his associates of both political parties, makes him one of the most valuable and influential men in the Senate. Long will Indiana have cause to remember him as one of her purest

W We notice a great many papers are publishing the bills of freight, showing the difference
between the cost of transportation on eastern roads, and the cost of water transportation, as compared with the exorbitant charges on the
Madison road. This is right, and will soon bring
the monopolists to a sense of their own interest,
by dealing more fair with those that support
them.

Salt Advanced,- We learn from one of our city dealers that the Kanawa company have re
cently advanced the price of salt to 28c. and 30c.
per bushel ; the former is the wholesale and the
latter the retail price. Cin. Commercial.
This advance will make but little difference to
the citizens of Central Indiana, as the lake salt
can be brought here and sold so much cheaper,
that very little of the Kanawa will be used.
