Attempted Assassinator iv a Cocp.t or ; Justice. On Saturday morning Eeh. i2."tii, a ; scene ocenred iu the Court House at Centreville, Wayne countv, which came near terminating: the life of Hon. G;o. XV. Julian. The citcumstances, as related to r.s by sever; l cj e witness- ' s, are as follows: IMr. Jti'iau was engaged as counsel for the j plaintiff in a certain case, and Michael Wilson, j Esq., for the defendant. Mr. Julian hid made; a motion lo have the answer filed by Mr. Wil- j son set aside 0:1 thu ground that it wa- intended merely for -nlay, counsel having adm itted that it! was so int-ui.lod, an 1 he made nlll luvit that such was the fact. Mr. Wilson replying that tha affidavit wji untrue, Mr. Julian, who was standin near Mr. W. tinned round to him and laid the back of his hand gently against Mr. Wilson, cautioning him to 'weigh well his words,' repeating it once or twice in a mild voice. Mr. Wilson then struck Mr. Julian with a knife which he ha 1 concealed iu his hand, aiming it tiirectly at his throat, and intlicled a wound nearly three inches in length. Eorlnnilely the wound proves not to bo dangerous, but it was truly ahair-brc i.ith esc pe. The Physicians who dressed tha woauJ, sty that a variation of an eighth of an inch cither way would, iu all probability, have proved fatal. We give the facts in the case without any comment Perhaps we should further rem irk that Mr. Wilson was apprised beforehand of the nature of the affidavit end that the motion to set aside his answer would be made. Mr. Wilson was immediately taken into custody but was set at liberty on giving bail in the sum of $d,(JD ), and the further invest guion of the matter deferred till M JuJay of this week. j'Vee Democrat.
