FRANCHISE LEAGUE I Working Hard to Secure Signers to Petitions For Passage of ' Federal Amendment. ! The Lebanon W oman's Franchise i ' lecicue, un.l.-r the leadership of Mrs. ! ' Cora 11. Senators and members .of Cenpress a--kinr their interest in the passage of the fe.leral amend-mi-nt. (riving women the privileee of voting. I'etitions favoring the fedor1 al amendment have been placed in the I public library in charge of local sutfratre workers who will be p-lad to exI plain the purpose of the petitions anil direct :uch in the proper sitfninsr of the petitions. Miss Jean Morris ; represented the I.K-al Franchise k-avrue today at the library, securing the signatures of tiie various ministers of the city and others. Anyone interested in the federal amendment is invited to call at the library any afternoon this week, read the petition, ! and if favorable, sign same. Woman suffrage is said to be a "first aid to patriotism," therefore let every pat riotic nian and woman sijrn the petition. Every interested or disinterested person in lioone county is invited to read the fo'lowini; "flier" which is beinK wieely distributed oyer the slate by the National American Woman Suffrage Association: Do You Know? Do you know, that the women of Great liritain (England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales) have suffrage on equal terms with the men, with the sole exception of the vote for memors of Parliament, and that the liritsh government has pledged itself to give that as soon as the war ends, if not before? .w, that the women of the flritish Colonies, Australia and New Zealand, have had full suffrage on c.Uai terms with men for many leais? Do you know, that the women of Canada have received full suffrage frm the Pacific coast to a point due north from central New York within th ..ti iv month' ,ic,n.. crovernnient has Dledu-wl then. pert,,.inent suffrage? , ., vou .now, that the women of Norway. Denmark. Finland and leenr hAve universal m.fTrairo and thotthose of Sweden have all suffrage rights exrent a vote for members of Parliament ? Do you know, any reason why the women of the United States should he less trusted than those of other lands and especially those of our former Mother Country. Great Britain? Then help get them the vote now. you know, that the women of other countries got their suffrage in u (.jies nv art of Parliament? That is why it should come in the United States by amendment to the federal constitution, subject to ratification by the legislatures of the several states. Before we go into the world war "to make the world safe for democracy" the United States should be true to its own principle and should abolish the denial of self-government to half its people. The way is by submission hers an.i their hushan.is. I he evening spent in playing "500."
