ITS CAfi'P READY FOROGQUPAKGY CONTINUED FROM PACE ONE.
We can not give expression of our cpprestation of the same in your news paper to a degree in which we ex-1 perienccd it. We are still talking about it. When others boast of their home townn, even though it be Riley's 'Little Town of Tail-holt we will feel i like landing a strong one for Lena-) non. We are so glad that the after-' noon train was late last Saturday. Only the lateness of that westbound train made it possible for as to remain there the time we did. Even though j the time was short, most every member got to see his friends and parent!!, which was a rare privilege. Don't look for us home this week end. But just go about your work more earnestly than ever. By doing this you will help us beat the kaiser. We hope that there will be no tears shed on account of cur absence and that sorrow will be reduced to a minimum. Our country needs men. We have responded. Others will do the same. Everything is being done or has been done to make soldier life convenient for us. Such a contrast with the experience we had to meet at the border last year. Here are a few gleaners. Here water is piped everywhere. At the border, water was shipped in in ril cars, was carried to the company and used sparingly. Here water is plentiful. We ran wash our hands and fares as often as we desire. At the border, we were fortunate to get water enough wash IVti once a day. Shower batl : are already installed here. None were installed at ,i e border for weeks after we were '.iiere. Temperature here is about (50 . r 70. at the border 125. We couM go wO indefinitely but these are enough to set you to thinking. Our streets are already made here. They were quite du.-ty yesterday siroe it has not rained here for three weeks. Rut this morning before traTV started on them, they were 'sprinkled. So the dust problem is settled. The New Camp. "The tent frame already set up for us are worthy of mention. Nothing could have been done that was more pleading to us men than to have this convenience. Mention inu.-t also be mede i f the mess hall, with its electric lights, tables for men, H'e ice-chest that would make the b"st product of the Campbell, Smith and Rithcie Compayn lock very insignificant. The mess hail is also equipped with two kitchen sinks with draining boards, and two supply rooms. A new field range was issued yesterday tons. It will be some sight to see 2'i0 men eating their meals regularly in such a place. Parents can bo sure that their sons will be enjoying themselves un outh f anions. Vuwlrr who will return thanks for us. The company has nut made an election of chaplain yet. In fact, w are shy of such material now as so many men, qualified for that position, were discharged at the border last year. We w-ill have competitive tryout for this positii-n before many days. Many are aspiring. "Everybody g"t a good night's rest last night. First call sounded at 5:30. Everybody w'ns soon up and dressed. The 2nd Ind. Inf. band did not play this morning but over in the 1st Ind. Inf. we could early hear them playing ihe selection dear to all of us. 'Back Home Again in Indiana.' Soldiers soon learn the value t-f music in military life. "We ate glad to see the company fund growing. We wish to assure all that we.are not beggers. Rut we do feel as if many more ought to and will contribute to this fund. Do not neglect this matter or delay doing your part. When you consider alt, yiu are the most fortunate iieople living. Located in a place that rivals the irarden of Eden, letting others die for your country and you remain safe at home, making money ad you huve never maile it before, why not come across. We will try to submit articles every few days to your papef." PROBATE COU The final report of Paul F. Helm, administrator of Martha E. CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE. ; previous assertions anil completed the argument by asking for a verdict carrying a small fine and without prison sentence. The? case went to the Jury immediately at 11:515 and the verdict was prepared by 12:20 o'clock. i Mayor Aiks fot Action. "When Mayor Murphy had received the decision of the jury and had ex-! pressed his satisfaction with the turn events had taken he made a statement in regard to th evidence concerning the actions of Officer Kurd and a.sked that he be removed from the police force. The matter wilt he referred to the board ot safety this morning and action will be taken immediately. "The speech of the maor was r.ot exactly unexpected because of the fact that the testimony was to th.' effect that the name of Mayor Murphy was used on the night of the arrest without his sanction. However, the evidence also f hovved repeat-'dly that not even the defendant or the man who whs arrested with her had besmirched the reputation of Officer Ford for honesty. Exonerates Ihe Pnliee. "One of the first things which the defense did in ita argument was to clear the police department and officmis of anv reflections cast upon it in the course cf the trial. Mr. Harding' mentioned with regret 'the inference, surely made unintentionally' that the police were implicated in any way with the plot for blackmail which the defepse alleged. "The entire evidence showed that Officer Ford did not indicate that he waa attempting to tine his authority for remuneration or 'hush money.' What the evidence hinted at so strongly waa that Iaelie Lyons was behind , the entire prbceeding and that he was the predominating influence which swayed Oftkrr Ford from taking all the proper steps, Ths ey crime which seemflti te b laid at the feet of Mr. Ford waa tint be aeeempaniei Mr, LyiMts in tlie wrest," A -.
