There i something rotten in Denmark, and also in this nation. Where Is all the coal going that if being shipped theje days ? I'nele Sam in hia official bulletin ahowa that more coal was shipped in August, 1917, than in August, 1916. and that i not only true in the, Indit , ana, IUinoia and Kentucky coal'-foliM I but ala from all the tI field except in uie retiiv.l.o.. c!d, srv! that section of the country. The statistics show that on seventytwo railroads, there were shipped 6J4.607 car loads of coal in August, 1516, while in August. 1&17, there were 703,177 loads shipped. 1'et, the dealers in the smaller towns and cities are unable to get coal, and there it a likelihood of extrcine suffering among the people, just ad oon as cold weather conw. The winter of 1916 was had snougli. and 1!17 should not be m bad, according to the figures on the shipments made, as compared with 1916; hut the people in the country districts are not getting coal. The big citiea must be hogging the coal. The people should be aroused on the fuel question. The winter is almost here, and there is not only no coal to be had at the high piicm that proTail, but at no price. Apparently, there is no coal to be had at any price. The government is just getting the htaUt fuel adminiotiatori. appointed, and it seema a long way off that the people can got cool, at leat at a reasonable price. lli.iry s.-.r.-.wiar.itv hnuld tike srvceial pains to organize and see that it gets it fair share of tho coal shipments being madeT and of course, that the price is reasonable in comparison with any-other esetion of the country.
