A part of every bushel of corn fed to hogs iia muddy feed lot Is LOST not only to you, out to the country.
It may be a fifth, but certainly not less than one-tenth. That ia Uncle Sam's estimate. If you are feeding 1,000 bushels of corn, 100 bushels disappear without gain to anyone. This 100 bushels of $1.90 corn is worth $190.00 in the market more if fed to hogs. There's a sure way to save that $190.00 of waste build a concrete feeding floor. A corxrete floor 30x30 feet will accommodate 50 hogs, allowing about 18 square feet per hog.
The total cost of this nr would not be more than 10 cents per square foot, or about $90.00. In other words, here is a $90.00 investment that pays $190.00 annual dividends. Can you safely invest your money to better advantage? Corn fed on concrete is quickly eaten, letting the hogs get back into warm quaiters without chilling. , With a concrete floor you don't need to drive into the hog lot every day with a load of corn and pick a new spot each time for feeding. Just drive alongside the fence and throw it over on the floor no gate to open. From a business standpoint, would it not pay you to put in a concrete feeding floor?
