The total acreage hna been increased L48 per cent over l'J 16. it i conservatively estimated that at least 300,000 food garden have been planted in Indiana. The estima tion was made uy Prof. fa. L I nnstie of Purdue University, director of the Indiana Commission of rood Produc tion Conservation. Indianapolis showed up well, with an increase of 200 per cent. The campaign was promoted In that city by the Patriotic Gardeners' Association with the aid of the local press." Expectations Exceeded. The people of Indiana are to be congratulated for the unanimous manner in which they arose to help the gov ernment in the tank of growing more food." What will undoubtedly be the most gigantic undertaking ever attempted in the way of theatrical Irtncfits, is now being planned hy the V ar Coun cil of the American Rod Cross, of which Henry P. Davison i chairman. A National Red Cross Theatrical day will be designated some time in the fall probably In October when 'he theatrical season will be in full swing. On this day it is planned to stage a huge nattrm-wide theatrical benefit in practically every theatre n the entire country. Special performances will be run The entire receipts of the various the atre will be donated to the Red Cross War Relief Fund. All of the actors will contribute their salaries for the ilay. And Hie public at large will probably have still another opportune ty to evidence their loyal support of the great humane task of the Red Cross, by paying special price for tickets. Seldom doe such wi rk as the Red Cros is doing go without the active support of the theatrical profession. The people engaged in this work have given ample proof of their ability and willingness to bring cheer into the lives of the needy in way ether titan by mere entertainment. The theatrical profession is living up ir it reputation and the movement is already well under way with the able direction of Mr. A. U Erlanger who has been appointed Nalonal Chairman for the Theatre aay by Mr. Davison. Over 250 of the moat able theatrical managers throughout the United State have already rolunteercd to turn over their entire repta on this day to the Red Cross Fund and Mr. Erlanger is enlisting the active, sup port of these men in enlarging the scopa of the plan and in carrying it through to a successful conclusion. Phone 158 V. H. BUSH FOR DIVORCE Charge the Defendant With' Being Cruel Asks $1,000 Alimony. I Daisy M. Bush is plaintiff in a suit filed today in the circuit court against William H. Bush, for divorce. The plaintiff charges that the defendant ured her and called her vile names, that h waa of a quarrelsome disposition and frequently struck and beat her and en on occasion the beat ing wat to severs that she was compelled to remain in a hospital for more than two weeks. She avers that he frequently told her "he wanted to drive her away from home and that she did not have the iiwve Ui tu hint for divorce. Last November, she says, she went to Denver, Colorado, to visit her sister and the defendant sent her clothing and told her to stay there and she wa compelled to ask her mother for money with which to pay her car fare home. She charge that the defendant in an habitual drunkard and frequently brings men with whom he drinks, to the home of the plaintiff and defendant while in an intoxicated condition. She ask for divorce, custody of the three children, an allowance for the support of the children and f 1.000 ali mony. The couple married October 14, 1901 and separated July 7, 1917. Her attorney ia P. E. Smiley. ORE TREATMENT CHARGED IN A SUIT Lela Kampf miller Files Complaint for Divorce From Joseph Kampfmiller. Lela Kampfmiller filed suit today for divorce front Joseph C. Kampfmillar. They were married July 2fi 1914 and aeparated August 10, 1915. The plaintiff charge that the deferiant frequently cursed her and culled her vile names and that he finally left her without means of support except that of her own labor. She svei-s tlat except for one pontal card sent her about two months after he abandoned Iter, ah has not heaid from him since. She asks divorce and the restoration of her maiden name, Lela Burkhart.
