WHO IS WHO BEHIND THE SCENES IN THE WAR ARMY
Brigadier-General Henry T. Allen, Cavalry Officer. Born in Kentucky April 13, 1859, and appointed to the Military Academy from that state in 1878. In 1882 he was promoted to a second lieutenancy and assigned to the cavalry. During the SpanishAmerican war he was made a major of volunteers and rose to be a Lieutenant ColoneL WASHINGTON, July 2. While fifty-eight years old, General Allen is one of the beat preserved men in the army, not apiaring to be more than forty-five years old, and is believed to he phvsicnlly fit for the hard campaign ahead of him in the European conflict, where it is thought he will It placed in command of the cavalry forces to accompany the Pershing expedition. General Allea is a wonderful horseman. He is a member of the Thirtienth Cavalry Polo team, is a member of the Board of Governors of the Washington Horse Show Association and a director of the Riding and Hunt Club. His daughters are also distinguished for their equestrian accomplishments. General Allen in a man of charming fiersonality and is a great lea-'-r of men, possessing the confidence and admiration ftom all those associated with him, both as fellow officei snd enlisted men.

that owing to the fact that the Hi vision commander had been injured, he had boen tiansfeired to division headquarters. The order came to him while he was still in the trenches.
