L. C. Smithson of this city, this morning received notice that he had been appointed parole officer ofj the boy's school at I'lninfield. He received a long distance call from (I. H. Scheidler, superintendent of the school, ordering him to report for duty today and Mr. Smithson left at noon for r'iainfield. The. appointment comes through Governor Goodrich. Th office pays $100 a month with all expense. Mr. Smithson has bean a faithful worker in the Kopub lican party in Boone county for many years and the appointment comes a? a reward for that work. Claries Walton, Ii04 West Ash street, w'a. painfully injured yesterday afternoon about 5 00 o'clock when a machine driven by a Mr. Schenck living south of tow n ran over rum. Mr. Walton, who is employed by the Miller Bros, p'.umbine firm, had been working near the dispatcher's office on Indianapolis avenue. e had riddea his bicyde north on the west sidewalk ef the avenue until he reached the Central Indiana railroad crossing when he started to turn into the street. Mr. Schenck was going south on the avenue at a fair rate of speed and did not. see the hirvrle r time to avoid hitting it. The car knocked Mr. Walton dow n and parsed completely over his body. He nuTerod injuries to his back and legs and a big gash waa rut in his head. He was taken to the establishment of Miller Bros., by Frank McCormick in a machine and Dr. IX j ski. Smith was called. Ha was later taken to his home. The bicycle waa completely demolished.
