( As rsTMHssl l rrr.i INDIANAPOLIS. May 12. Politics
again is coming into the spotlight in
Indiana.
To political atrategisU, who for
months have been quietly laying plans
during the lull in the political arena,
are now gutting togeiiarr foi avtiis
in tlie early fall.
It la evident that the effort of even
the politicians to keep politic out ol
the election of the drUgutes to the
constitutional convention will fail.
And in the city elections which follow close after the September election of delegates to the convention, vigorous battles will be waged.
In state and national attain) poli
tics have been pretty well submerged.
Tne Republicans are supporting the
Democratic national administration
and the Democrats are co-opefating
with tha Republican state administra
tion, in solving war problems. Some charges of playing politics are made against Governor Goodrich, but not in
affairs concerning the part of the state
in the great war. If leading Demo
crats believe the Republican state ad-
Inistration js "playing politics" in
these affairs, they maintain silence.
And if B special session of the legis
lature is called, it is believed politics
ill be absolutely forbidden in iti de
liberations.
Titer will be a dozen different in-
erct demanding representation in
the constitutional convention, and al
ready acrimonious contest are in tha offering. The labor unions, the liquor
element, the antl-linuor element, wo
man suffragtsta, employers, politican j 3 all will have a hand in tne selection of delegates. Th non-partisan da-1 legate, it 1 feared by many friends j 53 of the movement, will not be ehowm!
1 non-partisaA manner, bfiorts I ;
will b made to pledge delegates to I
support the interests of clause or special interests. Many delegates, Bsjss a rcuilt, instead of going into the ss convention to help remake the basic
aw of the state will go into the con-1
ventioo to demand special disponsa- zz Bon or to fLgbt for one principle.
Already, far-seeing men and wo
men are acting to counter-act this spirit, which they fear will lessen th Bsefainess of the convention.
