-CHICAGO CEDENT SHOV
LoeaJ Men to Meet With Builders From All Parts of the Country.
Ilov Metzgor, und u party of local men interested in building arc making plans iu ieuve Miunl for Chicago to join in the events of Cement Miow Week, February 7-15. Chicago is the great buying renter of the Middle West for building materials and equipment and the Cement Show brings together many building materiol dealer?, engineers, contractors and city oiliciuls that many organization! related to the building industry schedule their annual convention for the same time and place. This has made Cement Show Week in Chicago the greatest gathering of the building fmtcrnity. Even at home we can see wonderful .stride.-? in the use of concrete today. We remember when brick und wood sidewalk. were the rule, but now concrete is tie standard. Factories and warehouses, water reservoir-, sewers and most other foims of construction depend today upon concrete for structural stability and permanence. The most startling development in concrete is its use for concrete road.
sticets anil alleys. It is estimated that during IMG neuri) 25.0oO.0(ifl snuare yards of concrete pavements were laid in city and country, equivalent to over 2,600 miles of lti-foot concrete pavement. Hundred of usofu', and ornamental applications of concrete and the machinery, toots and appliances used by workers in concrete are shown evenyear at the Chicago Cement Show, Huge mixers traveling under tlieir own power, that deposit concrete over the full width of a city street, and concrete distributing systems that chute concrete over the urea of several citv b'nrks will be shown. There wil! V cnr.o :.' -.v, -! t -il - :.r I ' n . flower boxes, cone cte statuary and concrete roofing tile, concrete fence posts and a score of other forms, both practical and ornamental. The decorative side rf building will interest many visitors. In the Joint Exhibit of cement companies win be specimens of sculpture and among them 2 excel'ent and original studies in garden ornamentation by the eminent Chicago sculptor, Kkliard W. Bock. The spirit of "Springtime" and of "Winter" is faithfully executed in concrete with the child figure as a motif.
