White soldiers also shrink at the mention of his name. 111.9 discipline was fearful, and he meted out punishments without mercy even to the slightest offenders. One of his famovlte methods -was to compel tho soldier to remove his breeches and sit upon a cake of ice for hours at a time, depending upon the seriousness of his alleged crime. Another was to put a number of men on the roof of his house during a severe storm and to force fhem to remain there a given time. If they tried to come down they were shot. On this Christmas Day of 1922, perhaps, it would be difficult for you to envision a Christmas in future years when the grim spectre of poverty would still the merry voices of your children, when their stockings would be empty and the Christmas tree only a memory of other days. But in thousands of once prosperous homes reverses have brought about just that change. Perhaps the father's health has failed, and his salary has ceased; perhaps he has come to old age without a competence. Perhaps his life has ended and the estate which he thought was ample has been dissipated by unwise investments, extravagance or incompetent advice. Then his family comes to that tragic Christmas

Miss Dove learned thi3 after satisfying an ambition to put on the boxing gloves with her younger brother. The youngster planted cme on Miss Dove's eye ard cried out: "That was a slip. I didn't mean it, Eiiiie honest." "The weddine riag is well enough ; women, but the prize ring . cr," is Miss Dove's last word on the subject. From now on, she will be content with watching the fight scenes in "All the Brothers Were Valiant," which is being picturized from Ben Ames Williams' rowerfal sea story of the same r-?me. objection to the teaching of Christianity, and the seemingly neverending fciego- that followed. Ju.st when hope of rescue for several hundred Americana fceetned farthest away there came the rescue ship, according to Miss Craig. Day, when they find that a "sorrow's crown of sorrows is remembering happier days." Yet this need never happen in your home. Life insurance can be taken today to provide whatever may happen to your other investments a regular monthly income when you are too old to work, the continuance of ycur salary if you are no longer physically able to work, a steady monthly check for your loved ones, if death has taken you from earthly labors. What more magnificent gift could you make to your wife and children than to present them on this Christmas Day with an Income Insurance Policy that would be a living testimonial throughout the years of your desire that they should never know the doubly keen tragedy of poverty on this supreme holiday of peace and love and remembrance, or any other day?
