to create a market for their trucks the company accepted a vory reasonable margin of profit which made expansion slow. Th. first year there were only six trucks butlt and sold by the Betz Motor Truck Company. The owners of these six cars were so well pleased however, that they 'brought six more, and so the demand grow until this year e!g-hty-flve trucks have been built and sold and there are six unfilled orders. At first the company built only two and a half ton trucks, but now they are turning out a ton and a half truck which Is very popular. They are bidding "on an order of twenty-five passenger busses and hare other business In alpht that will Increase their output. Betz and Helwls with other expert mechanics build each truck. They maintain a factory service for all owners which proves a great saving to the owner. Their truck Is a success and there Is every reason to believe that the young men will realize their ambition and gradually build up In Hammond a good sized automobile truck factory.

WASHINGTON'. Dec. 8. Development of the air service to a point where It would be capable of offensive application, more interest in "tanks" and the motorizing of artillery transport were the chief recommendations made by General John J. Pershing, chief of staff of the army, In his annual report today. As the Influence of air power will become increasingly great in the next few years. General Tershlng believes the air service "which we develop should be capable of offensive application." "This does not mean," his report stated, "that we must Immediately build an air service that could take the offensive against any great power or group cf powers. It does mean, however, we should have a force that can take the Immediate defensive and that can, during a reasonable period of operating, expand to tho strength required fur an offensvie."
