THE GAMBLER IN ROMANCE. A wealthy Newark manufacturer on the side of fifty is defendant in a suit just inuted for damages of $200,000 alleged to have n suffered by virtue of his alleged failure to ry out a marriage contract. The plaintiff is young the suit is being prosecuted in her ther's name. This sort of court action is becoming more
i more open to question on a variety of unds. It might be inquired why the heart m suit is never brought for $1,000 for exple, against a man of lesser means. It is :n to conjecture whether a true victim of a scked romance would feel nclined to parade affliction in court. Nor is it settled that . ney is a suitable recompense to a devastated 'irt and that the suit is not frequently a comrcial effort from the beginning. i The saving circumstance in the matter is
it juries who fall regularly for lady sharp-! joters are displaying a new sophistication in j :ir attitude toward the fair heart balm hunter. ! Chicago last spring breach of promise suits which damages aggregating $750,000 were j jght netted something like $27. The public j ;trument of justice is no weapon for the pri-
te gambler in romance
EASY DIVORCE Old-fashioned folk are shocked by the escapade of some youthful Hoosiers who made "trial marriage" compacts and left home to put them into effect. Home has reason to be surprised, though. These youngsters agreed to get married and live together six months. If either husband or wife was dissatisfied at the end of the period they would be divorced. Sublime trust in the complaisant acquiescence of any court to their simple request for freedom from matrimonial bonds! But fully warranted by the divorce record. It has become fashionable to announce that a couple is merely going to "try out" the married state, but it is coneiveabie that not a lew take the vows with mirual reservations tnat will "let them out" if the oargam proves disagreeable. A few have made it plain that they did not regard amrnage seriously. And the public has looked upon their "advanced position" with an indulgence encouraging others to do likewise. When older people "get away with it," why should not youngsters play the game? party, it sounds suspiciously like a wish.

WORSHIP BY RADIO The radio church which Roger Babson intends to found at We.lesiey, Mass., is the logical development of one phase of wireless activity. Under his scheme, several denominations would be represented, and the broadcasting station would be powerful enough to send out its weekly devotions over all the country. The Baptists, for instance, would have an hour for song , prayer, sermon and worship. Then the Methodists ,then the Presbterians, etc. Some sly wag has suggested that this scheme is particularly desirable because it eliminates the collection plate. ' The art of communication is the greatest achievement of mankind. First, when we lived in the caves and on the cliffs, came rude speech. Writing, after many centuries, followed, and then the printing press gave civilization a spur forward. The telegraph and telephones were almost twins. Now 'tis radio. Perhaps the next generation will use the telepathy of thought-waves for its exchange of ideas.

The traveler may be placed under the painful necessity of handinff a fee of tuppence-ha'n-nny to the urchin who carries his bag or who brines him the beastly fee water. This grasping instinct is everywhere It is deemed nothing at all to fee a waiter a shilling after a meal. It can readily be seen how this conflicts with the foreign mind on fnrh subjects. The night life Is of a very abandoned nature. There are thousands of motion picture stars in Hollywood who do not have to get to work until 7 o'clock In the morning and so they spend their riights in Lucullan orgies which put civilisation as we know it. to shame. All night, every night these morion picture stars are -.igaged in riotous celebratio .3 which defv descrii f ion Nearly ail of them get drunk every night and stay that way all day while making their pictures. One of the big reasons why some people don't get 100 efficiency out of their lubricating oil, and their motor, is that they mix their oiL Lubricating oils are different They should not be mixed in your crank-case. Insist on the same kind of oil and the proper grade for your motor every time you buy it! When you pick out the oil you are going to use pick Marland. Marland Oils are produced by correct refining methods by the Marland Refining Company. They are refined from carefully selected crude. Every process from the crude to the finished lubricant occurs in the Marland Refineries under exacting Marland supervision.
