A monument erected ty the etate of illssoin-l In honor of the soldiers killed In action was Inaugurated at Cheppy (Meuse) on November 11. the anniversary of the Armistice. It is the work of Mrs. Nancy Coonsman Kahn, of St. Louis, and is composed of a pedestal and column of granite surmount ed ly a statue of Victory In bronze holding a wreath of laurel and olive branch. In a medallion Is enarraved this dedication: "Erected by the State of Missouri (TJ. S. A.) In memory of her sons killed In France for Humanity during the Great War. 1917-191S." The monument will Te placed exactly over the spot where one of the Missouri regiments suffered rauoh hardship. Tom Thumb's watch has Just been turned out at the great Swiss watch factory at Vevey. It Is said to bo the smallest precision watch In the world, striking the minutes and the hours. It is enclosed in a platinum ca measuring only one-half Inch across and encrusted with brilliants. Prince Hirohlto, who has recently announced his engagement to the Princes Nagrako Kuno, ald It with a little sword sumptuously engraved with the emblem of the JapaneseEmpire, a golden chrysanthemum of sixteen pearls.
