E Bernard Geske and his wife, Mary, of Whllln?,, staged a neck and neck race this morning to see which would be first In filing a suit in tlrb superior court at Hammond. Mary wanted to file a suit for divorce. Barnle wanted to sue his mother in law for alienation of affections. Mary had visions of $11,000 almony. Barnle was figuring on about $5,000 damages. Barnle won by a couple of minutes. Both suits aro on file, having neighboring positions on the entry docket. Mr. Geske Is suelng Mary Geidish. mother of Mary. She lives at 2913 Lewis avenu.-, in Stelglitr Tark. He says that he and Mary. Jr.. were married last May 29. He fixed up a home and furnished it completely. Then he asked little Mary to break away from her mother and come with him. His wife wanted to come but hesitated because her mother preferred to have her stay with her. Barnie urged and she decided to comply with his request. Th,?n mammk spoke. She told little Mary that if she went to live with that Geske person she would kill her. Those were plain words and little Mary changed her mind. She remained at the old home. Barnij sold the new furniture at quite a loss and tried living with his mother n law. It didn't work. FOUR FINED $0 EACH Joseph Hay, Kick Carmella, Joe Vifoski and Khtrene Uawton were each fined $20 in the Gary city court when they were found guilty of violating the state motor vehicle law. The motorists were arrested when they were found driving their machines with open mufflers. MRS. CARRIE BACON DIES Mrs. Carrie A. Bacon, who was a resident of Gary since the early days of the city, passed away at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Maurice Keddy. 5402 Kenwood ave.. Chicago. Since the death of her husband, the late Captain George Vaux Bacon, Mrs. Bacon made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Timothy Barrett, o fAmbrld'ge. For the past six weeks, the deceased had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Reddy, in Chicago. . Funeral services will be held this morning at ten o'clock from the St. Thomas Catholic church, 55th and Kembark avenue. HOWARD BELL TO BUILD RESIDENCE Howard Bell, auditor for the Gary schools Is completing plans for the erection of a residence to be located at 4432 Jefferson street. ;The new home will cost $3,000, will be of brick construction containing five rooms. Larson and Son are drawing the plans for the structure. MARY WHALE N SECURES DIVORCE Mary Whalen was yesterday grant ed a divorce from Edgar Whalen In the Gary Iake Superior court. Mrs. Whalen charged that her h-usftand was g-uilty of cruel and Inhuman treatment. Judge Greenwald ordered the h-usband to pay $7.00 per weeJc and granted the custody of their seven year old child to the mother. WANTS GUARDIAN APPOINTED Alleging tlvat August Simon ts not capable of managing his estate and that there is danger of his squandering It. Attorney E. Pierson has filed a petttion for a guardian for Simon. The petition Is filed n the Gary Superior court. ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING AT THE -HARRISON CLUB Frecinct committee men and workers "eleoted every - candidate on the republican ticket" at the organization meeting at the Harrison republican meetng n Gary last night when Miles Furnas of Winchester gave an excellent talk on organization. Besides Mr. Furnas" speech Mayor R. O. Johnson, County Chairman Tommy Roberts, Township Assessor Maj. McFadden and City Attorney Brissey of East Chicago, made an appeal to the committeeman and workers for a full vote next Tuesday. The meeting was closed with refreshments.

STEEL WORKER DISAPPEARS With the disappearance of George Wright, Inland Steel company employe of Indiana Harbor and residing at 2516 Ellsworth place, Tolleston, the polic3 and Mrs. Wright fear that some harm has befallen him. According to Mrs. Wright he worked night before last, but failed to draw his pay or come home the following morning. She stated that this is the first time her husband had ever done anything like this and that they had no troubls. BRUTE CONFESSES TO ATTACKING GIRL Ray Wilson of Grand Rapids After All Night Grilling Admits Guilt. (Copyright. 1922. by International News Service.) MUSKEGON. Mich.. Nov. 2. Raymond E. Wilson of Grand Rapids, Mich., 41 years old, confessed to the abduction and attack upon 11-year-old Rosalie Shanty to Assistant City Prosecutor Glenn Dunn shortly before daybreak today after an all-night grilling. At the time of the confession. Chief of Police Peter Hansen and Sheriff William O. Mathews were present. With a cigarette In his mouth and Just a trifle stooped in a chair after an ordeal which lasted for hours, he calmly recited the sordid details of one of the most atrocious crimes that haa ever taken place in this county. "I had been drinking moonshine," he said at one tmle during his recital of what he had done. "When we were several miles from Dublin, Mich., I stopped the ear. I don't know what made me, do It. but I Just lost control." Wilson is about six feet tall and weighs more than 170 pounds. In his startling confession, Wilson said that Rosalie ran away from him, screaming In terror, at 5 a. m. last Sunday morning. She was not found until the following Tuesday at 6 p. m. The ppHce were amazed to find the little girl had wandered through the pine-clad forests of northern Michigan for over forty-nine hours Here 1 Wilson's confession In part: "I came to Muskegon from Grand Rapids the morning of October 27. I went to Archer's, 33 Eastern ave.. and stayed there until Sunday morning, when I took Mr. Archer to the Continental (factory) In my Paige car. "I went to Eaton's boarding house for breakfast. Then I went to- the Paris hotel and obtained lunch. "In the meantime, I had got hold of some moonshine and had drunk quite a lot cf it. I had been planning on going to Dublin, Mich., where my second wife lives. "About that time I got to thinking about this girl Rosalie Shanty, whom I had seen at the bathing beach this summer. I wanted to take her with me. "I wasn't sure I knew her right name, but I knew about where she lived. I drove up that way and stopped two little boys. I asked them where she lived. They told me. . "I asked Rosalie's mother, who came to the door. If Rosalie could como to my Eastern ave. house for dinner with my little girl. "She said Rosalie was In church. She told me where th church was.
