The opportunity school, a part of thft public school system and the first of its kind in the history of education, was conceived by Willis A. Sutton, superintendent of Atlanta public schools, and was rut into operation by the school board, with the aid of the state and federal school fund, and with the hearty co-operation of business men and employers of the cltys It alms to train those wbo are at work and have no time to attend full-time schools. The school offers, among other things, courses in typing, stenography, filing, business arithmetic, business English, salesmanship, millinery, and bookkeeping. The hours range from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m., and the classes are arranged to accommodate any demand. "Most of our pupils," Miss Stephens said, "work here in town and run over for an honr or so a day for their work. We find the employers eager to have their of-, fiee force spend aa hour or so drillins in thing they most need, and the class periods are arranged accordingly.
