the Hammond Country Club Xovem. ber 11, made a kick to Joe Carr, chairman of the National Profeseiinal league and tho game was then called off. The rules of the league prohibit memberi of the circuit from playing with teams within a radius of fifty miles of other teams of the league without the consent of the nearby manager. Gary is not a member of the national league, while Hammond is a traveling member. "Doc" Young toid Mr. Bayton of the Elks that he would not stand for the Indians appearing In Gary next Sunday as Hammond has only one game at home this season and that one Is with tho Thorpe aggregation. Gary fans regret very much that the antlered tribe will not get an opportunity to show their strength against tho Indians and will have to content themselves with the fact that their idols play Hammond at a later date and the result of the scores will probably show which team would have made the best showing against the invaders. The Elks, who had already gone to the expense of getting out posters for the game and making other arrangements, arc new looking for other opponents. It is possible thai the Milwaukee: Badgers, a strong state team, will play the locals.

Xo further action will bo taken on Broadway's new lighting system until next spring, if the Board of Safety follows the recommendations made by the city plan commission. The Plan Commission urged the city officials that no action bo taken until more legislation !s secured. Mayor It. O. STATE CONSERVATION DIRECTOR IS HERE Col. Richard Lieber makes Address At East Chicago Chamber. To ward off Impending diseases and give just consideration of property rights, Col. Richard Ueber, director of the Department of Conservation at Indianapolis', cautioned that a way must be sought to halt the free polutlon of public waters, when addressing the members of the. East Chicago Chamber of Commerce at a noonday luncheon meeting yesterday. Recognizing the magnitude of the problem of eolvlng water polutlon, ihe speaker sized the situation up as a discovery yet to be made within the twentieth century. He pointed out that with the rapidly Increasing population and dovetailing of Industries along the lakes and streams, all adding to the sewage and pure water supply, some ftasIKi.. sn'i't'fp vnnV h'- vorked out

against the f r e polutlon of publicwaters. "The condition of our water supply is unspeakable," gaid Col. Lieber. "and still the practice Is increasing very day unhalted." With a deep rtga-d for community welfare and health of people. Col. Llebtr urged tho creating of a sanitary district as a beginner for solving water polutlon. "Working out the local water consumption problem ts not always a solution, particuiarly along a stream or Uke which furnishes water to people of contiguous cities." declared the speaker. This part of the problem. Col. Lieber i-onsidered, will be solved after years of research work, surveys and careful application. The state official did not attempt to recommend any method by which East Chicago might hope to solve her problem (as a sewage disposal system), but informed his listeners that he was a strong advocator of the drainage system as a means to pure water supply.

"It is a hard to say Just when we will and out about the proposed service," said Mr. Hess to a Times reporter today.
