JAM FLOCKS TO McNALLY HEARING (Continued From Page One.)
In her direct examination the girl told of seeing the "bundles" in bed with airs. McNally shortly after the birth was reported. Her friend, Alice Meyer, picked one up and held It a while. . She saw Mrs. McXally
hold one to her breast and apparently nurse it. Miss Griffith wrote the announcement ca?ds for Mrs. McNally informing some fifteen friends cf the arrival of twins. Tho cards were mailed to addresses furnished by Mrs. McNally. Then the state Introduced Exhibit 'A," numbered 1 and t, a breast pump and bottle nipple. The girl told of seeing Mrs. McNally use the breast pump, drawing off a pumpful of milk. During the cross examination of Miss Griffith there wore frequent verbal duels between Attorneys Eehwarts and Jellison, especially with reference to the pictures and the breast pumpi None of these resulted satisfactorily for the defense. While they were arguing over the pictures, Jellison closed the wrangle by retorting! "If you want to put those pictures In evidence, put Mrs. McNally on the stand. She can

Not Easy To Realize. Accustomed as we are to the use of gas, it would be difficult for us to imagine what our lives would be like were we deprived
of its benefits. It equalizes temperatures in tbe home so that i
cold, cheerless rooms are made cozy, and stifling hot kitchens become pleasant places in which to work. We are so used to dustless, odorless and safe kitchens and improved cookery, that many of us do not stop to consider that we owe these improved conditions to gas service.
Save Your Coal Why waste heat, time and temper with a furnace before the weather absoutely justifies its use. A Radiantfire Gas Stove will give you all the heat you need this fall. No bother, no ashes, no soot.
Portable and fireplace models for every purpose. The modern gas stove is designed to throw out warm, healthful rays of radiant heat, for hours at less cost than a shovelful of coal. call for them." Miss Griffith Insists she waa near the bed at one time &n4 bad a g-e&d view of the face of one ef the babies. She said it did not look like a doll. Its eyes were open. They were grey blue. The smoldering rivalry between Jellison, prosecuting attorney of St, Joseph county, and Schwartr, counsel for Mrs. McNally, flamed Into heated words late this morning when Jellison objected to what he termed Schwarts intimidation of seventeen year old Katherlne Griffith, daughter of the nurse, and state's witness, Schwarts stood in front of the witness flourishing a breast pump and shooting Questions relative to it at the girl. The court took cognizance of the state's objection and ordered Sehwarta to move further away. The testimony concluded, Schwarts with biting sarcasm asked the court if he might "approach tho pump1' and reclaim It. The permission was
granted Merritt D. Metz, Hammond lawyer and real estate operator, testified that he first met Mrs. McNally in July, 1921, when she and her husband called at his home in answer to a "house to rent" ad. He eaid Haxel then had every indication of approaching motherhood. "And that within a short time In my judgment then," said Mets. He saw her again in September. But her condition was unchanged. He admitted he was not competent to judge whether Mrs. McNally was masquerading the condition and that she might have padded herself for that purpose. His wife followed him to the stand. TiA state seemed to win a point when Mrs. MeU remainod unshaken under cross examination In her statement that she positively identified an infant In arms which was pointed out to her as Mrs. MoNally'B own. This when passing the department store of E. C. MJnas & Co. In January she came upon Mrs. Grace Turner, a nurse and friend to both Mrs. Metz and Mrs. McNally, and paused wben she saw an Infant in Mrs. Turner's arms. Mrs. McNally she said, was standing but three or fourt feet distant. Mrs. Meta asked Mrs. Turner whose Infant she held. "It Is Mrs. McNallys,"
the nurse Is alleged to have replied. Mrs. Mets says ehe remv4 th blanket that covered the faee and gazed upon the features of a tea weeks old infant.
