Harvests Delayed by Rain

but Some Surplus Is Still Expected MOSCOW. Oct. Although the rye harvest has begun In Southern Ukraine, heavy rains are delaying- the Northern growth, and all Russia is awaiting the final outcome of the harvests, for the future of Russia will depend upon the final crops. Reliable authorities predict that reasonable indications point to a crop which may permit the export of grain. The government has taken measures to prevent grain sharks from mulcting the peasants and every effort ia being made to provide methods by which the utmost will be gained from the harvests. Peasant delegations are now visiting Moscow and holding , conferences with government officials relative to the marketing of their crops, and their distribution. The Hotel Siberia has been set aside as a free central house for any and all peasant delegations coming Into Moscow. The transportation officials are using every effo-t to put all available transport into action for the movement of the crops. Orders have been issued prohibiting free transportation except for famine relief and the army, thus cutting down travel and making the movement of the crons easier "

Sensational Action May Decide the Paternity of Peeress's 'Dream Baby'

LONDON, Oct. England's most talked-of divorce is up for retrial at thj Michaelmas Law Sittings, which opened today. The case is that of the Hon. John Hugo Russell, oldest son of Lord Ampthill. against his wife, the Hon. Christabel Hulme Russell. "Baby" Russell, an infant of only a few months, is the central figure in the case. The plaintiff denies paternity of the child and charges that the marriage was never consummated. The defendant, a young woman who admits that she is a Bohemian in temperament, denies any charges of misconduct and. furthermore, declares that while walking in his sleep her husband committed "Hunnish scenes." "When the case first went to trial thers were two co-respondents named. Considerable evidence of a damaging nature was given, including testimony that Mrs. Russell traveled In the same sl?eplng compartment and spent a night in the appartment of one of the co-respondents. "Baby Russell" was brought

into court, and the jury was p?r- j mitted to judge for itself whether ! the child resembled the plaintiff or '

either of the named co-respondents The ultimate result was that the jury found that the allegations of

misconduct against Mrs. Russell j

with the two named co-retepondents were declared unfounded. The jury

disagreed, however, as to the charge ,

that there had beenl misconduct between Mrs. Russell ilnd an unknown

th? basis of. the retrial. The plaintiff, at one time an officer in the navy. Is well known In London society, and large numbers of society leaders have attended ths hearings. The testimony has been of a most intimate nature, and curiosity has run rampant and will undoubtedly be enlivened by the retrial.
