the train from Charing Cross railroad station and quit. The ordinary criminal Is easily disposed of. An order for his deportation follows his conviction, as a matter of course. But the "razz" has often to be administered to a person -who has broken no law of the land, but who is not quite the type of person that official England likes to have - living: In her midst. Sometimes It Is a famous actor, sometimes an actress and often some aristocrat from a country where moral code dees not quite coincide with that of Britain's best behaved. But before the "razz" is administered the Scotland Yard official gen-

; erally manag-es to g-et something ; tangible on the gentleman, and in order to save time and money and , very often an international scandal a timely warning- Is cent to the undesirable that if he would like to be saved from the Indignities of deportation he had better take the train back to his own country by

a certain date. The hint never faJls to act. The task of handing out the actual "razz" Is entrusted to the special branch detectives. All are expert linguists, and their departmental chief co-ordinates with the police of all the continental countries. The detectives go about their business in pairs. The senior of the two conveys the message, and th second man simply listens and observes. Failure tc comply with the hint to lea without any fuss means that the machinery of international law Is going to be set in motion. Within a few days the unwanted visitor finds himself marched off to Scotland Yard and thence to the railway station, ani if he remains obstinate they clap him in jail, and he is brought before the magistrates charged with being an undesirable alien. The trail cf the unwanted who has been given the "razz" by Scotland Yard goes on until the- victim reaches his own country, and then.

through the special foreign service, Scotland Yard gets the cable, "Baron X, or Madame Z, landed here at a. m., or p. m." - The "razz" has aone the trick, and the man's dossier Is filed for further reference. In certain cases it Is necessary for Scotland Yard to work through the foreign office, and then the consulate of the unwanted man's country hands out the hint, which is never ignored.

WARSAW Placing a pollcat un der a tub, to which was attached a twenty-foot rope, three youths, with their faces blackened to conceal their identity, pulled the tub up and down the sidewalk in front of certain houses on Arthur street. When the stench emanating from under the tub became unbearable, the youths fled, just In time to miss police officers and a deputy from the county sheriff's office, who were summoned by Indignant

householders.

One of the police, braver than

the others, righted the tub and fired several shots at the skunk, but the little animal made good Its escape, and now the residsnts of East Warsaw are living in terror.
