WHAT HENRY DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT MEXICO!

Lt me invade Mexico with factories and givs the people something to do!" cries Henry Ford. "Then there will be no more war there." As an Associated Press dispatch informs us. he "is said to believe that if the Mexicans once are taught the value of industry, better methods of agriculture and their possibilities individually and as a nation, the advance of the country will prove to be one of the most rotable in history." Already the first steps nave been taken. Accord- I

ing to the Patersor. "Fress-Guardian." Mr. Ford has had "several hundred Mexicans" in his manufacturing plants, where they have "become not merely proficient workmen but have received instruction in social relations to Mexico, we are told, and take jobs in Ford iactoriea to be established there, thus "forming the nucleus of a native force to ; v. horn they will be an example and an inspiration." Moreover, schools will give instruction "not merely in academic subjects, but in ethics and

industry, agriculture particularly. Kine Alfonso of Snain savi American eirls are too fat and Eng

very little attention to him, which serves him right. I believe if a woman wants to make a monkey of herself by smok

ing a cigarette on the street, the police may just as well let natura

take its course. It seems to be the opinion of movie producers that nobody with any sort of intelligence attends their shows. Predigested plots are fed to audiences so regularly now that the average person can go to slee? after the first fifteen feet of film, confident that he has solved the story. When the producers finally decide to let the audiences use their brains, they will be paying the audiences a well-earned compliment and will increase their business at the same time. CONFESSIONS OF A CYNIC I do not believe in capital punishment for jazz band trap drummers. I think life imprisonment is enough. I don't believe all puolic utility corporations are crooked. Some of them are too closely watched. I know a lot of men who have made money out of politics by staying out. I like blueberr pie, but I hate to eat it because it gets all over the ears so. I wouldn't care to meet a shark in the ocean, but I would rather get mixed up with him than with a chattel mortgage shark on land. 1 don't believe anything I 'read about Russia any more, either good or bad. I haven't tried to name the six greatest men in the world because I don't believe there are six. I believe when a man sets out at the age of thirty to go to the poor house he will get there if he tries hard. There is something about the movie industry that always makes us laugh, but it isn't the pictures. . 1 Our idea of a waste of time is offering work to the Mexicans. m No matter what it really is they always call it "love." - The hay-feyer joke is in bloom.

the victorious KemaJlst Turks which Is rapidly Increasing the disfavor with which her efforts to dominate Europe as a military power are viewed in the United States. This was the Judgment yesterday of Senator Henry Catot Lodge of Massachusetts, chairman of the senate foreign relations committee, and Senator Gilbert M. Hitchcock of Xebraska, Its ranking democratic member. Both condemned severely the open understanding between a Christian nation like France with the Mohammedan Kemal Pasha, without Which they declared .the Turkish commander would not have dared to threaten an attack upon Constantinople. Senator Lodge deplored not only the (moral support accorded the Turks by France, but the whole foreign policy of the French which appeared more provocative of war than of peace.
