It is based on a ruling of tho state board of election commissioners. The first registration day for the election this year will be September 9. the fifty-ninth day before the election, November 7. Under a constitutional amendment adapted in 1921. persons must be native born or fully naturalized to vote, formerly aliens could vote if they had filed first papers declaring Intention to become citizens. In a case appealed from Wells county to the supreme court, the constitutionality of the registration law is attacked on the ground that the pjffrage amendment to the Constitution, adopted in 1921. does not contain anything about registration. In this case an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief has been filed in the supreme court, submjttlng that the suffrage amendment to the Constitution was not really adopted In 1921 because a, majority of the electors of the state did not .'ote for it. Of those that voted more than half supported 1t. but the brief submits that the supreme court will take Judicial knowledge of t'he fact that not one-half of the electors of Indiana supported it. The Wells circuit court upheld the registration law, and an appeal was tnken to the supreme court. It 1s expected that a decision will be made by the court before the first registration day.
