Indiana, that it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to to own, keep or harbor, any animal of the jog species within corporate limits of the City or East Chicago, without, having first obtained a license there for, aa has been heretofore, or may hereafter be provide! by the ordinances of said city and any person who aha,ll suffer or permit any animal of the dog species to frequent or remain upon hia premises, or within liis or her home, building or inclosure, or who shall feed,-lodge or otherwiae maintain or retain ruch dog, shall be considerel as harboring the same. Section 3. The Chief of Police of the City of Eaat Chicago shall keep, operate and maintain for and in behalf of said City, a dog- pound for the impounding of dogs, at a con venient place within the corporate limits of said City. It shall toe the duty of said Chief of Police and the. policemen of said City to arrest. take up, and Impound therein any and all unlicensed dogs found running at large in said City, and while so impounded, ho shall provide aaid doga with sufficient food, water and shelter. Section 3. The Chief of Police shall keep a record of all dog Impounded, giving the sex, color, breed, date of arrest and the name of the owner, if known. Section 4. Any person beinjr the owner or keeper or entitled to possession of any impounded dogs may redeem and take possession of the same upon payment of the prop? fees and charges hereinafter provided, at any time within four daya after the arrest and impounding- of such dogs, and any person may redeem or ba entitled to the possession of an Impounded dog at any time after the expiration of the first day of such dog's Impounding and before the expiration of the four day limit as herein provided by the payment of the fees required by the ordinance. Section 5. Whenever the Common Council or the Mayor of said city f a hail apprehend that the disease of

hydrophobia Is in danger of becoming prevalent In said city, such city cduncil may by resolution direct the Mayor, or the Mayor acting upon his own volition, may issue a proclamation ordering and requiring all persons owning or harboring any animal of the dog species to confine the

same by good and substantial means! In and upon the premises where such person may reside, for a period of not less than, sixty days nor more than one hundred and twenty days ensuing the date of such proclamation, and upon the issuing of such proclamation by the Mayor, it shall become the duty of all persons owning or harboring any animal of the dog species to confine the same upon his or her premises and so as to prevent the same from being bitten by other animals, or cause the same to be securely and carefully muzzled by a good and sufficient muzzle. It shall be unlawful for any person owning or harboring any animal of the dog species to suffer or permit such animal to run at large without the proper muzzle herein required during the period of time specified in suCh Mayor's proclamation. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police and the policemen of said city to arrest, take up and Impound any and all unmuzzled dogs found running at large In said city during the period of time pecified-ln auch proclamation, and that such dog shall be Impounded as is herein required, for the taking and imponding of unlicensed dogs. Section 6. The police of said city shall kill and destroy by. asphyxiation and without unnecessary cruelty, all dogs on the fifth day after impounding, and the city shall be entitled to the bids of such dead dogs, and the Chief of Police and the Street Commissioner of said city shall dispose of the same. Section 7. Any person entitled to redeem any impounded dog shall before receiving possession of the same, pay to the Chief of Police, the sum of fifty cents for the arrest and 25 cents a day for each additional day of the keeping of such dog, which shall be paid to the City Treasurer upon proper permit to pay to be Issued by the City Controller, and such money shall le credited to the general fund for the use and benefit, of the City. Section 8. This ordinance Is supplemental and in aid of any and all ordinanees of said City concerniifS ioga. Section 9.
