Two of the best service teams in Lake county will collide at Harrison Park Sunday afternoon when the Hammond American LeK'on, nine will battle a new worthy foe in the local Veterans of Foreign Wars club. The V. F. AW have agooa ncord this season with six wins out of eight, while the Lesion crew has five victories of ine seven games played. The. Vets hav. defeated Miller. Slovak A. .C.. Gary. Crown "Point, Chesterton and Griffith by neat scores; and the Legton team has also done fine work in defeating such clubs as the Gary Legion, the Dolton Legion and the Forresters, last year's county champions. The Legion has won several practice tilts which they ore not uncorking:. On paper the V. F. W. stands out as tne leading light, but games were never won on paper and so the peppery Legion team may upset the dope of the present hectic baseball season. The Veterans surprised most everyone by trimming the famous Caseys on IXcoration Day. And to show that their, victory was not flunky, they trimmed Griffith on their own grounds last Sunday. The Legion nine also surprised the local followers by whanging out a victory against "Ziggie" Miller's Gary club, but on their trip to Crown Point they completely fell down. This was largely duo to individual, Pitts, the Hub's crack twlrler, who showed the best pitching that has even been seen at Crown Point in years. Interest in the coming contest is setting a fast and dizzy pace among the rival clans. Post Athletic Officer Chayken and Manager Tommy Tague are going to use their same line-up that has been out all season. Manager McClure of the Vets is saying very little and with the able assistance of Commander Miller the Legion may lecelve a surprise when the two rival teams take the field. The Veterans of Foreign Wars nine Is of the belief that the famous "Chuck" Zolla, who pitched a wonderful article of ball for them early in the season, will bo on the hill for the Legion rew. They base this belief becaase the former Seattle high school hurler is anxious to show his wares before a Harrison Park crowd.- Zolla is considered by those who know to be the best young mound artist that Hammond fans have ho a chance to see in recent years, and if the Legion does use the famous cig-ar flinger the Vets will be in for one busy afternoon. It is doubtful whether Hilton will twirl for the Vets. although the big boy should really be given A chance to show that he is the most promising moundsman in the county today. Hilton recently pitched throe games ; in as many days, a record that . will stanrf for r-mrsyr nxons. '
Practice sessions for both rival clubs will continue all week and fans who want to see a real ball game had better not miss the coming Sunday fracas which should prove the best of the year.

lake his score of 9t by 100 was unbeatable. He drew round after round of applause from the hundreds of spectators as well as shooters. It was an honor well worthy any shoot er to try for. Mr. Gus Ollrich from Robertedale gave Timms some race, but falling short one target his score of 95 by 100 is some shooting. Third place and trophy was a battle royal
between two Whiting shooters Mr. Ted James and L. NT. Dunning. Both "these shooters finished with a score of 94 by 100.' The flip of a coin decided the trophy to Mr. James. The long run spoon went to L. X. Dunning, t he Oil City shooter, smashing 42 of the mud saucers with out a miss.

CLOUTING COLONIALS SEEK ! 10 CONQUER CROWN POINT
fc-c,
Confident of adding another . to (heir unbroken string of""-victories, the Hammond Colonials will journey to Crown Point Sunday to engage the local .America! Legion team. Milletfs clouting warriors are go

shekels dropped by Hammond backers In that game. A comparison of past performances of the two teams pcints to the Colonials as the; probable-- Vyfctors.. Holding two wins over the .leading Gary team in as many starts and a victory over the heavy loaded Lowell team in their one encounter, the Colonials look the one best bet in the country. When hard pressed the team play is wonderfully smooth and the hitting consistent as-was indicated In the 3 to 2 victory over Gary and the ten inning hitting melee with Lowell, which was won 7 to 5. The Colonials well earned th title of crackers of hard nuts. To-wit: Kouts won an early 'season ten inning victory over the Hammond K.. of C. team in a hard fought diamond battle. They ,bopked up with the Colonials and finished on the short end of an 8 to' 2 score. In another instance the Lowell team blanked the battling Hammond Vets, but were shown their- proper place last Sunday when vthey succumbed to a neat trimming administered by the Colonials. With an ,eye on the defeat of the Hammond Legion - by Crown P6int last Sunday the Colonials are not remiss to the possibility of a like fall. Rest assured Hammond will -not suffer defeat for want of a zealous effort. Negotiations have been opened for a three game series between the Colonials, and the Columbia A. C. team.
of West Hammond. The ' west side team has been lacing strong Chicago semi-pro teams with a startling regularity and in the eyes of the followers of these two teams a series of games would just about decide the championship of the world. With out doubt more will be said and written" about this battle' for lacal supremacy later1 with an entrance into the fuss of a couple other teams probably. The Hammond American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars are expected to and are ac
corded the right to dispute any claim to the city championship. An elimination series will easily determine which team is the most deserving of the title of champion. But we are drifting away from the original theme. A bus will "be at the corner of State street and Calumet avenue to pick up all who wish to make the trip to Crown Point on Sunday, at 12:30 p. m. East Chicago fans will gather at loOth and Magoun ave., wh,ere the bus will make the start. The cost for the trip to the capital city and return will bfc seventy-five cents. June ISth, the Colonials are booked for a game at Harrison Park and on the 25th they travel . to Michigan City, where they encounter thesMichigan City Grays. The Colonials are" being billed as one of the big attractions at a monster celebration at Kouts, Indiana. July 4th. They will participate in a morning parade, enjoy a big feed at noon as guests of the city, and clash -with the Kouts ball team in a widely advertised game in the afternoon. They will be' banqueted again in the evening, win or lose. Ilemember fellows, where you lost it is where you'll find it. "As previously stated, the bus will be at Calumet anrl'State street at 12:30 p. m. Sunday.
