THEY SUPPORT HARDING. Efforts of certain Democratic leaders to get satisfaction out of the Republican primaries
in Indiana and Pennsylvania are likely to have results more academic than practical. They would like to believe that the primaries constitute repudiation of the administration of President Harding. It must be a bit disappointing to Democratic leaders to have Albert J. Bev'eridge, nominess for senator in Indiana, say that he will support President Harding if the republican party elects him in November. Gifford Pinchot, Republican nominee for governor of Pennsyvania also expresses his allegiance to the national administration. While the machine politicians of Pennsylvania received something of a jolt in the success of Mr. Pinchot, long known as a progressive of the Roosevelt clan, there is no -reason to believe that there will be in that state a political revolution that will put the Democratic candidate into office. The, situation in Indana is different, for that state is not so thoroughly wedded to political idols as is Pennsyvania. There is always a fighting chance for the major positions in Indiana, and there may be dissatisfaction over the nomination of Mr. Beveridge which will result to the benefit of the Democratic candidate. The point is that there is not the "ground swell" of a revolt against the Harding administration which was proclaimed by Democratic leaders when the returns were first received. Closer consideration of the results in both Indiana and Pennsylvania indicate that the fight was within the political family, and there is little reason to believe that it will be carried to the election in November with promise of aiding the Democratic candidates.

plete with amenities and epithets than are the pages of the Congressional Record. A senate calls a private citizen a "crook." Another senator, behind the barrier of his office, calls worse names. The private .citizen comes back with the complimentary statement that one senator is a "cowardly vagabond" and a "dirty reprobate" and the other a "blasphemous and blatant hillibilly." He invites one or both the wearers of the togs to come from behind senatorial priv lege and meet him "alone in a room." v The constitutional protection thrown around members of congress in connection with remarks made on the floor is sound, but there are times when the privilege is greatly abused. It is a question whether some of the remarks made with reference to persons who are handicapped in replying would find expession if the official did not feel the protection of his position. There can be such a thing as refinement m personal attack. Former President Wilson is now exemplifying that fact. In his attack on Senato Reed, of Missouri, Mr. Wilson uses no
term that one gentleman combating another might not use. A "marplot" is the worst he has called the Missourian. But all that marplot means is "one who by meddlesome interference mars or frustrates a design." For instance, Senaotor Reed has a design to return to the senate.
REPITHETS AND AMENITES Journalism in the romatic pioneer days ot the far West, when every editor was supposed
RUSSIA'S BID TO WORLD. The nations must generally recognize the fact that Russia needs assistance to a much larger extent than the ability of the soviet government to offer anything in the way of commercial advantages. Great Britain entered into a trade treaty with the bolshevists, but the benefits have been practically nothing. The soviet delegates in Genoa .seeing what they believed to be an opportunity to getting more for themselves than deserved, have made demands that have placed Russia in a ridiculous light before the nations not directly concerned in the conference, and they are certain to be rejected by the conference itself. Russia is practically a national mendicant. Reports of huge stocks of raw materials wh,ich would be of advantage to the United State appear to be largely figments of the imagination. Trade with Russia would be a credit proposition of the most doubtful kind, in view of the character of the men in charge of the government. It is plain that if Great Britain and France make concessions to the soviet government of Russia it will be more because of fear of the military threat of the bolshevists than because of any benefits they expect to get in' return from the soviet leaders, who plainly care nothing for the interests of other natiorns of Europe. The attitude of Secretary of State Hughes towards the bolshevist government is quite well known, and it seems likely that President Harding is entirely in sympathy with these views. Members of congress who seem anxious to yield to bolshevist Russia will do well to await the action of the executive department.

It seems almost impossible to get steamed up over that war in China because nobody seems to know who is fighting whom nor what they are fighting about, if anything. I am going to publish soon a book entitled "My Impressicns of England," based upon the experiences of three days spent in that country some twelve years ago. I expect a large sale in England as I hold the manners and customs of the English people up to ridicule and abuse throughout the book. St ' CLEVERNESS. Evelyn is clever. Gays Colors of Clothes
Should Harmonize
with Type. BY HAZEL BLAIR STAFF CORRESPONDENT 1. N. SERVICE NEW YORK, May 31. "Women would be happier end more efficient if they selected their clothes with reference to colors that harmonize with their type blonds, near blonds or brunette is the theory used by Mrs. Eertha Holley, well known New York artist, in her efforts to make woman's attire a frame for her personality and individuality rather than just "clothes." She spent some time in France prior to the war and, failing to find the inspiration for designing there that she sought; came home and started to put some of her own ideas for woman's dress into effect. Since then she has designed frocks,. suit3 and hate for many of the noted actresses, society women and others. "I based my scheme for woman's dress," Mrs. Holley explained, as she showed various designs, "upon type and coloring. "Real 'blondes should always wear Mue or gray, or combination of those shades; ' near-blondes should wear neutral tones or gray-blue; brunettes should always wear" some tint of gold or brown, auburn-haired women green, gold or brown. "I do not think of the prevailing mode in dress when I design a garment," laughed Mrs. Holley. "Why should 1? It might not fit the woman I am dressing at all. "I try to make attire simple, conform to her type and of good material and along lines that will al-
