Williams, director of the state hlg-hway commission, said today. For several weeks the entire forces of the maintenance division of the ctate highway department have worked continuously to rut state roads in condition to expedite this traffic and. according to A. H. Hinkle, chief maintenance engineer, all state highways are In fair condition and many miles are as excellent as speed courses. In anticipation of the thousands who annually respond, to the thrill of the great speed classic and motor to the Hoosier oval, Indiana state highway officials have complied information on the best roads to be taken by out-state motorists coming to Indianapolis. They point out that state roads are easily to follow because they carry the numfcar on telephone poles alongside, and that cumber can not easily be mistaken as they are within an outline drawing of the state stenciled la white on black background. Routes crossing the state and leading to Indianapolis as selected by the highway officials ares Traffic coming from Toledo, Ohio, should come via Fort Wayne, following state road 11 through Huntington, Marion, Anderson to Greenfield where it will meet the National road leading west to Indianapolis. One short detour Just north of Marion is in fair condition. Traffio coming from Columbus, Ohio should follow the National road through Richmond, Cambridge City, Dublin, Greenfield to Indianapolis. Between Dublin and Greenfield this road is closed for construction. Traffio going west will detour at Dublin north, about one mile and then west to Greenfield. TraTlo going east will detour at Greenfield south about one mll and then east to Dublin. Cincinnati. Ohio traffio should follow state road 34 to Brookvillej thence over state road 19 through Rushville to Indianapolis. Traffio from Louisville may follow state road 1 through New Albany Scottsburg, Crothersville and Seymo-ur leading west from Crothersville about four miles and thence north through Dudleytown to Seymour. Traffio going south on this road should remember to continue south at Seymour via Dudleytown meeting state Toad X at Crothersville. . The brldga which washed out on state road 22 about eight miles north of Martinsville will be replaced with a temporary bridge. State road 4 between Boooeville and French Lick will be closed all summer for construction. Traffic coming from Chicago to Indianapolis may follow the paved road to Danville 111. thence go east to Covington following state road 33 through Crawfordsville to Lebanon, and then by state road 6 to Indianapolis; or Chicago traffic may follow the Jackson highway to Indianapolis. Any of the state roads between Indianapolis and Chicago should be in fair condition except the ten miles of state road 8 north of Rensselaer between Alx and Kersey. This ten miles is unimprovod and the detour around samo goes south from Demotte through Virgle, meeting state road 8 at Alx. Michigan traffic coming through

One deour is necessary out of Kokomo in a southeasterly direction and then south to Sharpsville about seven miles from Kokomo and then vest back to state road 1.
