FEMININE BLUEBEARD IS PLACED ON TRIAL

Southern Indiana Has An Unusual Murder Mystery. INTERNATIONAL- NEWS SERVICE ' SHELBY V1LLE, lnd., ilay 22That Mrs. Clara Carl, former Cleveland newspaper writer, not only poisoned her second husband and father-in-law with tha sordid aim of inheriting their paltry estate, but also killed her first huscwmd in similar fashion, wa3 expected to ba the contention of the, state- -when trial of the alleged faralnina "Blue Beard" opened here today. A special venire of seventy-five prospective Jurors -was waiting examination for Jury service as trial was .begun on a formal charge of murder, accusang Mrs. Carl of the killing of Frank Carl, the second husband, by arsenic poisoning. Outstanding points in. tha strange murder trial, one of the most extra. ordinary in Indiana's criminal history are these: Mrs. Clara Gibson, the defendant married Frank Carl in Indianapolis Sept. 14, 1920, under the impression, according to the contention of the state, that he was wealthy, i Frank Carl died at his home at county, fifteen miles east of IndFhiladelphia. Indiana, in Hancock county, fifteen miles east of Indianapolis, August 6, 1921,- without leaving any estate. Alonza Carl, 7S years old, father cft Frank and f atner-in-law of the defendant, tiied just two months previously. The elder Carl, ac. cording to the contention of Prosecutor Waldo Ging of Hancock Co.. thwarted Mrs. Carl's alleged plans of leaving property valued at about $3,000 to a son-in-law residing in Denver, Colo., instead of making Frank Carl his heir. It is charged that the elder Carl's last Illness was similar to that of his son, regarding whose alleged murder the state will rely heavily, it is understood, on testimony of doctors. It was stated that the prosecution is prepared to introduce damaging evidence concerning ihe death of Robert Gibson, first husband of Mrs Carl, and to introduce a report on the post-mortem examination of the body, exhumed at Nelson vill , Ohio. Gibson's vital organs, it is reported, showed traces of arsenic poiBoning. Mrs. Carl, attributing her ln dictment to "Idle gossip" has entered a plea of not guilty. She is 38 years old. The trial, venued to this county on motion of the defense likely will last two or three weeks, it Is estimated. KU KLUX KLAN DENOUNCED INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE! SAX FRANCISCO, May 23. When You Select Your Suction Cleaner

Keep That Important Fact In Mind Wh n ordinary cleaning methods have r emoved the surface litter from your rugs, the embedded dirt is still left deep down in the fabric. It is unsanitary, germbreeding, the worst kind of dirt. And it contains much sharp grit that gradually cuts and injures the fibre of your rugs. The Very Powerful Suction of the

Gets All Such Dirt Every Time And to do so a cleaner MUST do three things. It must produce a POWERFUL suction. This suction must be UNIFORM all along the nozzle. And the nozzle must

be ADJUSTED the rug surface.

DIRECTLY" to

The Royal does these three things. Its suction is powerful its scientific and patented designs creates a UNIFORM suction along the entire 14-inch nozzle length. And with the PATENTED Royal adjustment screw,

the POWERFUL suction is applied "directly" to the rug surface.
