With the close of the oniuo cessful economic conference at Genoa Europe is trying to look forward hopefully to the uew conference which will convene at believed that more harmony and cooperation can be secured. At the same time matters pertaining to the Interest of each department is discussed and In this way the cogs of the city administration oiled and free of friction when appearing in the public eye. Twin City News Notes Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brissey of Drummond street, entertained Mr. and Mra John Brissey of Covington, Indiana, and Prof. Keehn, of Chicago, at dinner Sunday. Professor The outcome of the CarpentierTavii fY in Tendon WBS not! much of a surprise to the real students of the boxing game. It was j a foregone conclusion that when two such cunning, scientific and tigerish battlers as Georges and Ted climbed into the ring together to settle the question of superiority rules would be of secondary consideration and that there would be no love lost. That Carpentier would win easily most folk expected. But his victory was accomplished more quickly than anyone looked for. Lewis has no howl coming. Unbiased reports from the ringside, including comment by "Corinthian," famous expert with the "Daily Chronicle" of London, say that Lewis was beaten at his own game that he had hit while breaking away and while holding Carpentier. Carpentiefs victory gives him more grounds for a return match with Dempsey through proving that he has not slipped back physically since his first encounter with Jack. As far as showing anything new about his ability as a fighter the bout was a failure. Much is said of English sportsmanship. This boasted attribute was not in evidence during the Car-pentier-Lewis embroglio, according to reports. Carpentier was booed and hissed as he climbed from the ring a victor. Our memory concerning the Dempey-Car-pentier fight is still fresh and we recall how American fans cheered Carpentier to the echo when he a stranger from a foreign landseemed momentarily to have a chance to wrest the crown from the head of our American champ. One would judge from the senti'ment at English fights that Great Britain has sympathy for a fallen log from a strange land, but does

The Hague June 15. This gathering of the representatives of the European powers will center its efforts on solving the Russian economic situation, which Droved Keehn Is a blind violinist and in the afternoon gave a musical program which was enjoyed by the following guests, Mr. and Mrs. George Summers, Judge and Mrs. Crites, Mr. and Mra James McQuaid, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Summers and James Harbaugh. ' Mrs. Frank Dignam and son, Frank Jr., of Chicago, spent yesterday the guests of Mrs. Arthur Grove, of Drummond street. Dr. with Mrs. Coleman and baby returned the latter part of last week from Marion, Ind-, after spending a few days with Dr. and Mrs. Gordan. former residents of Indiana Harbor. The Indiana Harbor Woman's club is planning for a street carnival June 2nd and 3rd to be held on Michigan between Grapevine and Guthrie. Mrs. Robert Jackson is Si not care to enthuse about foreign victors. Carpentier's chances for a return fight with Dempsey have been increased a bit by the fight. ' Lewis has lost little prestige through his sudden defeat. He was outweighed twenty pounds and entirely outclassed. The fact that he even fought Carpentier will make him a better drawing card in the near future. As far as having any effect on the boxing situation in general, the bout amounted to nothing. , Watch William" M. Johnston! The showing of this tennis wonder in the east-west matches- on the Pacific coast this year indicates forcefully that he is right, with, a capital R. He is set to bid for national and international title this summer and fall. An attack of ptomaine poisoning last fall weakened Johnston to such an extent that he feared he could not regain his form for early season matches this year. Then, last winter, he suffered an attack of influenza which drew him down still more. His chances of taking a leading part in the sport againof upholding America's fame as a member of this year's Davis cup team seemed slight. But by strict adherence to rigid training rules he has regained his form. Now he believes he can come east late this summer and win the American championship once more. He needs one more victory to obtain permanent possession of the cup offered to the first three-time champ. Bill Tilden also has two legs on the cup, so they battle of the two for the last leg, so to speak, ought to be a hummer. Well know more about Mr. Jim Tracy, Australian heavy champ, after he tackles the veteran Bui Brennan May 16. Bill stuck twelve rounds jdth Dempsey.,
