HARDING FAILS TO , ATTENDDED1GAT10N Now Feminine Political Circles are Asking Themselves Why. BT H. K. REYNOLDS STAFF CORRESPONDENT I. N. SERVICE WASHINGTON, May 22 Feminine political circles were buzzing with excitement and speculation here today over the mystery that has developed over the failure of President Harding to attend the dedication ceremonies of thai opening of the new building of 'he woman's party. A note from the white house addressed to ilrs. John Gordon Battelle announced tho president would be unable to attend, arrived just an hour before the ceremonies started. The note was signed by tho president himself but it contained no explanation of his reasons for not attending. Charges were made today at the headquarters of the woman's party that the League of Women Voters, which has been warring against the party, had influenced the president to change his mind at the eleventh hour. It is known that representatives of the league called at the white house some time after it was announced the president had accepted the invitation to the ceremonies to urge him to stay away. The white house remained silent today concerning the affafr, no explanation being forthcoming of the president's reasons for changing his mind, but Miss Edith Ainge, of Jamestown, N. T, and other leaders of the woman's party, announced they would "demand an explanation." "The president called me on the telephone at my hotel at 10 o'clock Saturday night," Mrs. Battelle said today. "He gave me his reason for not attending the dedication ceremonies, but I can not disclose it." Mrs. Battelle is a personal friend of President Harding and is reported to have been a large contributor c CRAFTSMANSHIP IS
Even to observers of the finest automotive plants in Europe and America, the new Cadillac manufactories are a source of wonder and of admiration. The fact that the site embraces more than 49 acres, and that the buildings provide a floor area of more than 2,500,000 square feet, is in itself sufficiently impressive. But even the fcreat structural magnitude of the Cadillac plant is surpassed by the orderly production and the exquisitely precise machine-equipment within. Craftsmanship is a creed here, and
accuracy a law.

Many to the republican campaign fund. "I do not know the explanation. You heard what Mrs. Battels told us," said Alice Paul. "The president was afraid to come because of the League of Woman voters," said another leader of the party. Mrs. Kate Richards O'Hare, leader of the "Children's Crusade," who is demanding amnesty for so-called political prisoners, advanced the opinion today that the president stayed away because the children who have been trying unsuccessfully to see him at the white house were to be present. " "Word must have got to the White House that the children were there to picket him," Mrs. O'Hare said. "The children weren't invited, but they intended going anyway." The mystery surrounding the failure of the president to attend the ceremonies is deepened by the fart that less than two hours before Mr. Harding's note was received. White House secret service men arrived at headquarters and took the usual precautions for the reception of the chief executive. They remained throughout the ceremonies, though the president didn't show up. Thousands of the instruments of manufacture, expertly contrived and almost unbelievably exact, were designed especially to meet the requirements of Cadillac. Every process of construction is pursued with microscopic carefulness. More close, fine measurements are observed on the Cadillac, it is believed, than on any other car. In appearance, the motif of the vast new Cadillac works is immensity; but its spirit and its greater source of wonderment are minute precision in even the finest dimension and operation on the Cadillac car.
