In suburban territory the traffic conditions may prevent the use of the new tickets, but they will be used on all trains where conditions permit. The new tickets have two Innovations a color acheme and the conductor's check. Both of these are

expected to assist the conductors in their duties and thus to give speedier and more efficient service to the public. For each Main Line division a distinctive solid color has been adopted for the tickets, the outlying, divisions and branches being distinguished by colored Initial letters superimposed on the 'black printing. When the conductor takes up the ticket he returns the hat check after punching it. This check is retained by the passenger and kept in the hat or other easily visible place Until the passenger nears his destination, when the conductor will

take it up. The color on both the ticket and on the het check indicates the division on which is located the passenger's destination; thus, until that division is reached, the conductor need pay only cursory attention to any passenger, except those for fntervening points. This wiil simplify his task and enable him to cover the train more quickly. The colored hat checks also will prevent to a great extent the practice of some passengers attempting to travel beyond the destination to which they have bought tickets and will also prevent evasions of fare by persons who board train and pretend that they have surrendered their transportation. The tickets will be used by passengers in parlor or sleeping cars as well as coach pa.f it, st rs. From pugilist to artist is the lateBt fad. To Jimmy Johnson, veteran middleweight boxer of the early '90s, goes that distinction. Johnson has made oil paintings of three present-day champions. Poor old Frank Baker! The Trappe mauler, who once reigned as home run king by virtue of his circuit clouting in world's series games, is about done. He hobbled up to the plate the other day for the Yankees and, as his old back creaked and his joints groaned, slammed out four singles and a double in five trips.

When the Giants bought the veteran Heinie Groh from Cincinnati some of the knockers said: "Why buy him. He's about done. Won't last much longer." Maybe so. But did you notice that poor old Heinie led the league in bathing in the second returns compiled? Collected something like twenty-five hits in his early games for an average of .463.

, Billy Miske has made such a good showing in his recent bouts that the other heavies and nearheavies are now ducking him, according to his followers. Same friends declare that Bill Brennan found an excuse to duck a match with the St. Paul gent and that Gene Tunney didn't want any of his stuff after watching Billy perform in the east. Which may be. Speaking of the heavies in general, it looks as though Gene Tunney and Harry Greb would furnish the next fairly interesting contest in their division. How interesting it will be remains to be seen.
