HHAT to wear and when? The suitability
is a question as important to women as the style and beauty of the gown itself. Mary Brooks Picken. vice-president of the Women's Institute of Domestic Art3 and Sciences, in her book "The Secret3 of Distinctive Dress," offers an illuminating guide to correct spring dressing in the above chart. Mrs. Ficken considers clothes a subject worthy of the most serious thought of women who take pride in living up to their best. "Dress is all important,"
she says, "because it portrays character and individuality. To appear at your very best at all times, you must give due regard to appropriateness, comfort, grace and harmony." Concerning spring style tendencies Mrs. Picken stresses the growing popularity of attractive colors. "Use discriminatingly as much color as you can, both in dresses and suits," she says, and cites ihe new three-piece Buit, a special spring feature, as offering unusaal opportunity for using bright hued material. "Pretty sleeves were never so much in vogue as now," is another hint, and then paradoxically, "this is also the day of the sleeveless dress, a twentieth century adaption of the graceful lines and simplicity of the ancient Greek robes. Your dress this year will either have no sleeves at all, or the sleeves will be its most conspicuous feature." To those who make their own clothes, Mrs. Picken adds a valuable suggestion that dresses, especially when of silk, be selftrimmed. "You will find that a one-colored silk dress is appropriate for many occasions, and is a real economy and satisfaction to the woman whose wardrobe is limited. It is not always possible to secure self-trimmed gowns except at the bes shops, but skillful home-dressmakers will find they offer great possibilities."
girls and cast of well-known musical comedy players, will come direct from the Manhattan Opera House, A'w Torkand the Metropolitan Opera Houe, Philadelphia, the Homes of Grand Opera. "Bringing up Father in Wall Street" was greeted
with tremendous crowds in Xewi York and Philadelphia and kept the patrons of those two huge playhouses in throes of langhter for many
weeks. "There is not only wit and humor, but a great deal of human nature in "Bringing Up Faher," said David Belasco, the famous theatrical manager. It is declared to be the most pretentious and the most amusing of the "Bringing Up Father"' series offered so far. A capable and well known cast of musical comedy favorites has been provided with the result that a performance unusual and diverting may be expected.
